We had Carmax deliver the car from Atlanta to Greenville, SC, and we went and bought it yesterday.
Pretty much looks new.
The original owner's manual is missing, and Carmax said they will reimburse us for buying one.
) Anybody know of a good source?
Carmax sold it with 'all original equipment'.
It came with a remote and I'm going to insist they provide one.
) Any ideas of sources, other than the dealer?
They put the car up on a lift and I looked underneath and saw almost zero rust.
(There was a very slight bit on the CV joints.)
The one place I did find rust was on the steering column, in the cabin, right above the floor.
) Is this common, or a problem? I will likely just sand, prime and paint it.
This is the basic ES model with the in-dash CD player.
It also has the factory accessory USB port.
The port charges my phone, and a USB icon shows up on the CD/radio screen, but
I could not get music from the phone to come out the speakers.
) Is there some trick to this?
Looking at the flat repair stuff I see a can of fix-a-flat with
an expiration date of January, 2018, so will be replacing this.
There appear to be a couple empty slots in the white foam holder.
) Is there anything missing, or are those just spots to stash some little tools?
The online photocopy of the manual shows wingbolts for accessing the spare tire stuff -
this car has combo straight / #3 Philips screws. Will be putting a screwdriver in the glovebox.
Odd observation: I was a carpenter for many years and have a pretty good eye for plumb and level.
The left meter with the 16 bars is tilted about 1 degree. I think I can live with this. : -)
The 81 miles to get home was a bit of an adventure.
We used more energy than I expected road testing the car,
I hadn't checked the actual miles from where it was to home, and
going up mountains really does take significant energy, even driving fairly slowly.
Last night was below freezing, with winds gusting around 40mph.
Basically just took more time.
I used a free 240V charger at a restaurant to 15 bars,
another free 240V one at a Community College to 12 bars to get to the next stop,
an EVGo chademo for the last bit. Got home with 6 bars and 22 miles on the range-ometer.
I now have even greater respect for the amount of energy in a gallon of gas!!
