One of my daytime running lights got smashed somehow. The dealer wants $243 just for the part, plus installation. This seems pretty outrageous -- the highest price for similar items that I've found on the web was aound $60.

However, I don't see any DRLs for the iMiev on sale anywhere on the web.

Anyone know where I can get one? (If it matters, I've got a 2012 base model.)

Hi Jonathan,
I have a 2012 berry/purple iMiev that I'm parting out, and it has both headlights and fog lights. Can you be more specific as to what part you need? Typically "Daytime Running Light" just refers to running the headlight all the time, but at a lower power. Do you mean the fog light, or an entire headlamp assembly?

There are two different filament bulbs within that one housing: one for DRL and the other for Foglight. Also, recall that the car is programmed to only enable the foglight when the headlights are turned on (I never understood that one).

. . . . and only when the low beams are illuminated. Probably because it's the law in many/most states??

Many years ago while driving south on I-5 through Oregon in a virtual blizzard, I found I could see much, much farther down the road with just my fog lights which were mounted below the bumper - The headlights which were much closer to the plane of my vision reflected most of the light off of the huge snowflakes back into my eyes and I only felt safe at about 20 or 25 mph - Not a good speed to be moving on I-5 under any conditions - I was in fear of getting run over by some idiot who didn't care that he couldn't see what was in front of him. Turned off my headlights and with just the fog lights I could safely do 45 or 50

Anyway, an Oregon State trooper passed me going north and he turned around, chased me down and cited me for not having my headlights on. It wasn't a cheap ticket either! Rather than pay it, I just avoided going through Oregon for the next 15 or 20 years

I've been in similar situations and have found that Sun glasses really help with the glare.

Only thing is it looks kind of strange driving in a snow storm with sun glasses on.
