The key buttons unlocked and locked the doors, but the key wouldn't turn in the steering column switch.
Neither of us could turn it.
12V Aux battery was new and had good volts.

The penny dropped eventually - the car has a steering lock.
A wiggle of the steering wheel and the key turned.
It would seem that in the short time we've had the car, we've never parked-up with the steering lock engaged.
