The DC-DC converter would max out at what, 500W continuous
Right! It's 500W cont. and 1000W peak. My emergency load is only about 150-300W (lights, TV, internet)

Anyway, good luck on the cleanup and recovery. You might be surprised by how quickly the hardwood trees recover, and how awesome the blooms on any flowering trees are two years later!
Thanks for encouragement. I also believe in mother nature's immense power of self-healing. We will assist a.m.a.p.

Slovene Adriatic coast

Never saw anything like that in my life. Portugal, Florida, South Australia are anti-ice (for now :?). Forests aren't safe here too, but because of the summer fires. Sometimes I would like to live in a colder country, my i-MiEV battery would last longer.

Zelenec, sorry to see such widespread damage to your environment - to console you, it is still far less than one of our forest fires.
You're absolutely right, Joe! Slovenia lies between the Alps and the Adriatic Sea, so we have always been protected from severe storms or fires as you know in North America and Australia. We witness natural disasters in our country becoming more frequent and more devastating. I'm afraid that we (humans) have passed the point of return and like any good mother, Nature will punish us hard way for our greed and stupidity.

About battery. I can always charge from any of 40 public stations in Ljubljana (capital) where power infrastructure is not so damaged. Almost all of them are on and free to use for now.

So was our coastal region. Never happened anything like that. Funny thing is, temperatures are between -2 and +1C. Icy rain falls down on trees and other objects and freezes befor droping to the earth. If it was colder, the only problem would be what to do with all that snow :)
