Joe, those small wind turbines in the last picture... Do you remember if they were turning when you were there and did you notice how loud they were ?
Sorry completely off topic.

Not turning (dunno why, it was windy), previously silent when turning. Answered as PM.

And who makes them? I've been considering a wind turbine, but can't make the numbers work just yet.

Thought I would start a new thread since PV1 and I are thinking the same thing. Love the idea of the small footprint and also wonder how quiet they really are.
Also how much they put out in energy ...

Took the liberty of moving the other posts over into this topic and sticking it into the Off Topic forum. ;)

To answer your question, those wind turbines have been there for about three years and were part of a huge ceremony celebrating that charging station opening. They used to spin and I'm surprised they now don't. I don't have a contact but will ask around...

Did a little digging. tigger19687, this should help answer your question about the wind turbines:

Perhaps backtracking the turbine specifications will yield noise level information? You can always google "Crissy Field Center wind turbines", but I couldn't find out why they were not turning. They had been conducting a study on the impact (no pun intended) on wildlife. Next time I'm up there I'll stop by the Center and ask.

Odd. NPS has a page allowing monitoring of each individual turbine. 0 energy produced, though the PV is working fine.

Vertical axis turbines are of dubious usefulness. They often need to be started by an electric motor, and once they are moving, they has some output, but are no where near as good as conventional turbines.
