Back on topic, perhaps we should identify what is a 'bargain'? My thoughts, as of October 2016 in the USA SF Bay Area, reasonable mileage and condition:

2012 ES basic with Remote $5000; add $500 for SE (primarily for the alloy wheels and DRL)
2012 ES with CHAdeMO with Remote $6000
2012 SE Premium (includes Nav and CHAdeMO) with Remote $7000
2014 ES (includes CHAdeMO) with Remote $7000
Subtract $1000 for not having Remote (roughly the Remote replacement cost)
IIRC, the late-2012 and later have the slightly 'improved' battery packs.

YMMV, depending on your 'need' for either CHAdeMO or the Remote. As always, supply and demand dictate the price (Econ 101).

I notice that the prices have been holding steady for over a year, maybe even going up a bit.

I wouldn't subtract $1K for a missing remote. Most owners can get by just fine without one. We used our remote 3 or 4 times in the first year or 18 months (to preheat the car in the winter) but we haven't touched it for the last 2 or 3 years. Our second iMiEV also came with the remote and I'm sure it's laying around here somewhere, but we've never used it for that car

If the remote was better designed and easier to use, it would be a different story. If I found a car I really liked and they wanted $200 extra for a remote to go with it, I'd tell them to keep it

I would guess the prices are now holding steady or trending up slightly because the flood of 3 year lease returns is over. Now they are just changing hands as second owners move on. There were never that many of them to begin with and since they tend to be silly low mileage and well cared for you can't really expect to pay much less than 6 or 7K if it is fully functional.

I have one car with the remote and one without. I was able to get $500 off the price for it not having the remote (being -10 F outside at the time helped to sell the whole pre-heat notion).

Of the two, I definitely prefer Bear with its remote in winter or extremely hot days. The remote gets used almost every day I drive the car from October (actually this Monday was the start of pre-heating season) until March-April. Though, if I am driving Koorz, I'll move the passenger seat all the way forward and put my space heater in the rear footwell. Given enough time (about an hour), it actually does a better job than the factory pre-heat (defrost or HEAT on the remote, it beats both and actually heat soaks the interior).

I personally think the remote is ridiculously overpriced (as is most of our parts supply), but it's worth it when the car is encased in a layer of ice and one doesn't have to scrape the windshield in the morning , or worse when the doors are frozen shut (though the i-MiEV has a wonderful door seal design that largely prevents this).

I'd say if you live in a temperate climate (or garage the car), don't sweat not having the remote (though it could be used as a bargaining chip to knock a few bucks off an already great deal). If your car lives outside where it falls below freezing, then I'd say to work a deal on a car without one or hunt around and find one that has it (they all had one from the factory, but they tend to go MIA on the used ones).
