Hey y'all,

My name is Kevin Williams, an auto journo with The Drive. I bought a used 2012 I-MiEV SE right on New Years Day, and I've been enjoying my little bit of time with it. I feel like a lot of auto journos were unnecessarily unkind to the car back in 2011, and my ownership of a used one has shown me what a useful car it is despite its limitations.

OK, I've definitely been using this forum as a huge resource on repairing and driving my little egg-shaped early EV. Thanks again, y'all, this y'all have been such a great help.

Kevin, welcome to the forum and thank you for your entertaining informative (and cringeworthy) articles.

Delighted that your shifter cable and 'gear' selector replacements were successful, with no battery lowering misadventures. Living in California I have no appreciation for dealing with rusted automotive components and hardware.

With warmer weather I think you'll find some nice range improvement - hopefully your i-MiEV will now reward you for your efforts and you can enjoy it as trouble-free low-operating-cost and fun-to-drive emissions-free local transportation.

Hey JoeS, thanks! I did a couple of battery balances (drove til it turtled, then charged again) and it seems like I've actually got range back! I think the previous owner kept the car tethered the charger.
