Although I'm well past my first service, I think the only reason I take it to the dealer every year to do the service is CYA. That way, they can't say that not getting service done caused some problem down the road. On the other hand, though, there is probably more risk in having such mundane service done every year by a car dealer.
Honestly, how much wear can there be on our brake pads? The only time in the last year or so that they got any hard use was the other day when some iDiot in a Ford Escape decided to turn left within 20 feet in front of me :twisted: .
And the cabin air filter, I've checked it once, and I don't think the dealer ever has, since nothing in my glovebox was moved around after either service visit.
