Anyone do local EV meet ups?

Or do you know if there is a website where other EV'ers have a calendar for events and such ?

Would be fun to have one once a year at least.

The San Francisco BayMiEVers had a get-together at my place back in March, 2012.

Never got around to having another one…

We are rather low-keyed, unlike San Francisco BayLeafs which is a large and very active group which often holds joint events with the Silicon Valley Electric Auto Association.

Today, I went to the Phoenix Electric Auto Association meeting. Various electric car enthusiasts attended, including those owning Tesla P85s and Roadsters, a brand new Kia Soul EV, Leafs, Ford Focus EV, and a custom thingy, as well as a plug-in hybrid (the make-model escapes me at the moment). A lively discussion ensued over a number of different electric car topics from Tesla news, batteries to chargers to how heat affects a battery here in Phoenix, as well as our iMiev.

One interesting topic was a brief review of the Blue Indy electric car sharing program ( https://www.blue-indy.com ). These electric cars are powered by Lithium polymer batteries with a super capacitor attached resulting in a range of 150 miles or so. From Europe and now in Indianapolis, and hopefully to spread to Phoenix.

After the meeting several had a tour of the iMiev and the new Soul Ev. The price-cost benefit of the iMiev impressed a number of the attendees. In that respect, it was the best. But range was a different issue. ;-)

The Soul EV is a very nice car, which has a reputed range, with the AC, on of over 100 miles. The AC is supposed to be a super efficient 'heat exchanger'. It has an air cooled battery. It should be a study to see how it lasts in the heat.

The Roadster in my opinion was also quite nice. In theory, with the mods, its supposed to have a range of over 400 miles. I look forward to seeing it completed with mods.

The Phx EAA ( http://www.phoenixeaa.com ) is a 'subchapter' of the Electric Auto Association ( http://www.electricauto.org/default.asp? ), which has a number of chapters around the country, see the post above. Anyone have any idea how many of the iMiev forum members are also members of their local EAA?

Quite a delightful meeting, followed by a drive in the iMiev in the heat.

103-5 today. Gasp...

Seattle EV Assoc (first or 2nd largest EAA Chapter in the US, depending upon the month) meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month from 6:30-9 pm. www.seva101.org

We also make waves at regional car shows and host a few of our own.
Tacoma EV Assoc is a small discussion group, but has displayed EVs at the state fair for four years now.

Lookup your local chapter at http://www.electricauto.org/?page=Chapters

It's a great place for all the usual reasons to join a club of like-minded contrarian individuals, and SEVA has evolved from a DIY support group into a legislative force to be reckoned with in the OEM EV era.

There are at least four EAA chapters in the San Francisco Bay Area. I participate in two -

The San Jose chapter meets on the second Saturday of the month at Reid-Hilview airport and is an interactive round-table DIY discussion group of hands-on BEV experimenters. http://rotordesign.com/sjeaa/

The Silicon Valley chapter meets on the third Saturday of the month at Hewlett Packard and is a much larger and more formal gathering, usually with one or two guest speakers.http://eaasv.org/

Again, here is the generic EAA site to find your own local chapter - http://www.electricauto.org/?page=Chapters

Here is a video from June 3 AZ Green Living June Launch Party by Phx EAA member/officer Sam DiMarco and also shows our iMiev as well as other EVs.
