Got a call from the dealer. They asked me some questions about my usage of the car. Below is a summary:

1. How many days a week I drive the car.
2. Miles per day.
3. Speed?
4. Main usage times.
5. Hours of use per day.
6. Charging routine.
7. Cable brand.
8. Conditions when issue arose.

They also said they got my recalls done already. Doesn't sound right, as I believe it was the undercarriage rust recall, unless they had some parts laying around.

Not quite 20 questions- but I hope they're just trying to learn, as the warranty repair can't be contingent upon any 'correct' answers. This same battery and drivetrain must see more prolonged high amp loads in the Minicab MiEV when hauling loads of fish up from tiny Japanese ports!

I think it is GREAT that they even ASK questions.

Anytime I had a recall on FORD, they didn't ask anything... and I usually got stuck with some kind of bill :(

My dealer had me fill in a multi-page generic form that really didn't address the specific battery issue well, as it seemed to assume a catastrophic failure rather than a gradual degradation. Sounds as though this is an improved feedback attempt. Don't forget, Mitsu is also performing occasional in-depth battery testing (they mail out a notice to, as best I can tell, random owners).

Gave the dealer a call today to get an update. They have my old battery out and will be installing the new one tomorrow or Monday (2-3 weeks to ship a battery from Japan, not bad). I asked him if I could stop by and take some pictures. They said sure. So, here they are:

If all goes well, I may have Bear back next week :D .

The battery pack, if our experience counts. When we bought our iMiev (with 2,300+ miles), it needed a new pack. Mitsubishi replaced the pack under warranty and gave us a new 8 year/100,000 mile warranty. This is what shows on our Mitsubishi online account also.

Its a great warranty and for us, peace of mind.

Great pictures. I see the new battery case is all black compared to the old case that is gray on top.

Well, the old battery case was originally black, just like the new one. That is just 22,000 miles of road dust you're seeing. You'll even notice some small gravel laying on top of the old pack. I am surprised by how clean it actually is between the pack and the floor of the car. I figured it would be much dirtier.

Phximiev, thanks for that info, I'll have to check the site to see if my warranty updates after the new pack is in. So far, it isn't showing this latest service.

Yeah, but then the battery may not fit properly. It's a tight fit. It would've been an awesome opportunity to insulate the heater, though. I know somebody who has a lift like that, so I could get under there if needed.

My OVMS module came to life about an hour ago, and is showing that the 12 volt battery is charging, so I'm going to assume the new pack is in and the car is charging.

So, three weeks almost to the day, and Bear is now safe at home. They replaced the main battery, replaced my rear parking sensors since they were always going off in Reverse, and performed both recalls.

The factory battery warranty has been extended by Mitsubishi to 10 years/100,000 miles, making it one of the best in the industry. I don't know yet if the warranty period is reset for a new battery. The dealer didn't know and will have to check with their rep.

I had an RR of 77 miles when leaving the dealer.

They were even nice enough to clean up the wiring for my lights, even if I had to fish the one light out and put it back.

Is 10 years a typo, or do you have some new information? The Mitsubishi web sit indicates 8 years/100,000 miles.

RobbW and I both got a notice from the dealers about the extension.

It's printed on my summary sheet as "i-MiEV Main drive battery warranty extended from 8/100 to 10/100."

Da ve sign up on Mitsu web site with your VIN, you can see your Warranty and serviced done on YOUR i-miev :)
Mine says I have 96 months left.... it is a 2012, so 10 years

I logged into https://www.mitsubishicars.com/owners/service/warranty and viewed my service record, which reflects my car's information. Under the Warranty Information for 2012 i-MiEV - ELECTRIC, MAIN-DRIVE LITHIUM BATTERY - IMIEV EV ONLY, I see:

Months 96
Mileage 100000
Warranty Expiration* 08/31/2021
Remaining Mileage* 89775

That 08/31/2021 date is exactly 8 years after my purchase date, not 10 years. Ten years would be 120 months and 08/31/2023. If the factory battery warranty has been extended by Mitsubishi to 10 years, it is not reflected on my web accessible record.

I hope the warrantee has been extended, but question why Mitsubishi would do that.

Dave

I think that it would be worth a call to the dealership. I will call ours on Monday to ask a few questions also.

I'll keep checking. The last time I looked on the owner's site, it didn't include the latest visit, so it may take some time to update.
