Buying and i-Miev in Australia - different screen/radio

JoeS - I can vouch for that. My wife and I originally considered a Leaf but it was a little too expensive and there were reports of battery issues. I summed up that I could instead replace our older second car with an imiev for the same price as our fuel and maintenance budget for that car...

Buying and i-Miev in Australia - different screen/radio

Not sure about the Canberra structure but here in Qld the solar panels are set up so that your home makes use of the solar first, any overflow is what gets sold back to the grid as green electricity. If you genuinely want to run the car as a non-fossil fuel vehicle the most direct route is...

Buying and i-Miev in Australia - different screen/radio

Hi bindi and welcome! I'm also an Aussie iMiever, I can tell you it is gonna be a whole new experience punting around in a funky silent runabout :) The stereos both have Bluetooth functionality and can stream audio. The large LCD screen is for the sat nav, which by all accounts is not quite...

    Risk in buying a second-hand i-Miev

I had a similar issue with transport after buying from a dealer outside the cars range. I wanted them to meet me half way at a recharge point but the wouldn't. I had the options of paying for transport (expensive), driving my self with a fair amount of planning involved, or hiring a truck...

    Range extender !

I wonder if this could be adapted to provide a little extra range ;) http://www.pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyId=28683

    Performance test - Water!

I must admit, I puckered up a little taking my iMiev into the local car wash. Not the water per se but the under body jets being blasted directly on the pack made me wonder if the whole thing would cut out on me. Luckily all was well though...

    Australian Spec i-MiEV

JoeS Yes it does, shown as D-B and C on the shifter and in that order. Would prefer it as C-D and B to allow easier manual switching between modes to suit road/situation, but that's just a personal preference.

Use of public chargers by PHEVs vs. BEVs

Another point to consider... In the near future we will have ever greater numbers of BEVs, PHEVs etc to accommodate. As sales of differing types and models (such as the i3) are made available how will you know if the car you are unplugging is not a BEV version? Also, as owners of what is...

Use of public chargers by PHEVs vs. BEVs

The GE Durastation charge point here in Brisbane has a large led status light on top that shows when it is Ready, Charging or Finished. Mind you it is operated by the car park attendant which reduces potential oversubscription issues (especially in a state that has only 48 registered EV's)...

Bought new silver 2012 SE for $26,250

Having recently bought a 2012 iMiev that had stood for a year in the Queensland heat (30degC+) I would definitely agree with a battery report as insurance, the good news is that my car has proved to be on song, despite me not bothering with requesting the report. Getting regular 100km+ ranges...

    Risk in buying a second-hand i-Miev

Apologies, just re-read my post and could have been clearer. My tarrif 33 is taken up by my pool pump so my imiev charges on a standard 15a socket. My usage is offset by our 5kw solar with a 55c feed in tarrif so still happy days :)

    Risk in buying a second-hand i-Miev

Really glad you got yourself a deal. For those reading this abroad the tarrif 33 is a reduced rate electricity meter that is only active for certain periods of the day, typically used for powering pool pumps during off peak periods, a boon in subtropical Queensland. We did look into the same...

    EVSE Mounting Configurations

Good idea to star a new thread, think we got a little off the original topic. I've got my eye on reusing one of my garden auto-retract hose reels when the hose splits. Also considering what secondary outlet I can add for faster home charging for daytime top ups. Having 240v reduces the need...

RobbW wrote: Well, this is my first attempt at posting images to the forum so bear with me if this doesn't go according to plan: I purchased a SureHook rated to 20kg and affixed it to a brick column near the outlet. You'll note the spring ends are nearly the exact diameter of the orange...

How do You Drive your Miev?

Personally I love using the regen on traffic islands, back up the dino burners on entry and then floor it on the exit and scurry off like a squirrel with its tail on fire. Almost every time they get left significantly behind as I settle into a gentle cruise to the next junction and do it all...

    Risk in buying a second-hand i-Miev

Fairly sure it uses around 12/13A, takes around 7 hrs I think (never timed, I just leave it overnight). I had the socket installed for around $430 although there was a significant run length involved. Then I bought a double hook to spring mount the charger near the socket so I didn't have to...

    Risk in buying a second-hand i-Miev

Haven't been up to Mt Cootha in it yet as I am down at Yatala so I'm more likely to head up Tamborine way at some point, I'll update you when I do. As for the deal I got it was for a new 2012 car with 19km on the clock. They asked $25,977 and I negotiated $3k for a trade in that they initially...
