Strategy and compatibility for battery upgrade

Major differences in the electronics, wiring and connectors such that they are not interchangeable, e.g. OBC and DCDC, MCU, BMU.

I'm buying a non-runner MIEV here in Japan!

With a strong 12V the system should be able to turn on the CAN buss and give some status or DTCs. If the pack has energy it might go to READY; if there are HV errors then it will prevent ready mode. If the pack is too low, then no ready mode and possible errors, and would need to be charged...

I'm buying a non-runner MIEV here in Japan!

Typically the owner would read out the DTCs which identify the affected subsystem and post a copy of the screenshot or a list of the codes. Here is a recent example, https://myimiev.com/threads/standas-power-steering-problem.5646/#post-50127 If it is an issue that has been reported many times...

    Single Phase Charger

What EVSE unit are you using? Maybe it has some settings to adjust the output current?

The battery may also be called a Type 151R. If you can read out the DTCs that will help narrow down the troubleshooting to specific area.

Car not working after HV traction pack swap

That is a bad link for your car--it is for a PHEV, not the i-miev. Here is the P1A44 for miev: http://mmc-manuals.ru/manuals/i-miev/online/Service_Manual/2011/54/html/M154921280001600ENG.HTM

    Standa's Power Steering Problem

PM from @standa "Hello, I have a request for advice. I have a Miev from 2014 with 18,000 km. No accidents. New 12V battery. Everything works as it should, only the power steering does not work, errors U1116, C1512, C1511. EPS ECU connectors in order. Thank you for any reply. JMBLDHA4WDU000892"...

Car not working after HV traction pack swap

If you are reading 14.4 at the battery when the car is in READY, then the DCDC is working. The DCDC is located in the bottom plenum of the OBC unit in the rear motor bay. The B1105 DTC is related to the A/C Control Unit, which is located under the rear seat along with the BMU and EV-ECU and...

Cell Cross Referencing, PID to Physical Cells

6557. looks close to [255*256 + 255] /10 seems strange how it converts the data, which we don't really know without firmware or insight into the control system. thanks for the info about the buss bars, that is a very clever build. (y)

Cell Cross Referencing, PID to Physical Cells

This is another good finding from your investigation. So we think that the CMU will report 2.100 V on the BAT-CAN buss when the fuse is blown or there is no data, but then the BMU converts that to "FF FF" when reporting on the EV-CAN buss. Some folks have reported seeing huge voltages for...

Cell Cross Referencing, PID to Physical Cells

Great catch to find the fuse issue, and thanks for sharing the troubleshooting story along with the pictures of your custom module. i guess now we know why the OEMs put paint marks on bolt and nut joints after they are assembled and torqued. What is the material and how were the bus bars cut...

Cell Cross Referencing, PID to Physical Cells

Good work to solve the mystery. So it appears that you found that the cell numbering starts with the A & B cells (1&2) in 6E1? Then the 6E2's are for the C&D (3&4) 6E3's for the E&F (5&6) 6E4's for the G&H (7&8) The 12 index bytes make sense to identify the Module numbers. Don't know if...

Repair shift position switch on gearbox.

i think it is a single unit but has the dual circuits internally. If the 2 don't agree then it throws a DTC and prevents READY mode, hence the name inhibitor. Good luck with the repairs and back on the road.

Repair shift position switch on gearbox.

What year and model are you working on, and where is your location? Epoxy might make a good repair until you get a replacement part. or it might be plastic welded depending upon the composition. This is from the 2012 version,

What's a good tool to remove the security nuts-- i have lost the keyed adapter tool?

    Mitsubishi i-miev error p1a32

The problem is likely that some cell voltages are too low and the Pack was shutdown or disabled from READY. No need to tear into the DCDC until you have some indication that it is bad, which is a rare thing to happen. An old, weak or worn out 12V battery will cause a multitude of issues across...

Repair shift position switch on gearbox.

Clean the shaft as best possible with sand paper or scrubby pad, whatever it takes to remove the rust. Spray it with plenty of lube, then pry with a putty knife or two to work it off slowly side to side.

Repair shift position switch on gearbox.

So you got the nut and bracket lever off the shaft screw? Did you unbolt the switch assembly from the gearbox so you can take it to the workbench? From there you can take out the screws that hold the black plastic housing together? Use a small wire brush to clean grime and rust off of the...

Car not working after HV traction pack swap

This might be a clue to the issue of not having CAN communication, This would suggest to do a continuity check of the CAN buss wiring harness from the Pack to the BMU.

Okay that is good to hear and a relief, we never know the skill level on the other end of a forum conversation.
