I bought this little fellow to play with and found it fun to drive, left parked unplugged at my office and the 12 volt battery went dead, recharged the 12 volt battery, and can not get the hybrid battery to charge or get the car to go into drive mode, eventhou I have 5 bars left on the gas (smile) gauge... is there anything I need to reset if the 12 volt died...??? Help please... Thanks Jim

Update I put a brand new 12 volt battery in today and the car still wont engage and move... Not sure what the heck is going on...any ideas will be helpful, you can email me at [email protected] tag the email battery...thanks Jim

i suspect that your 12V battery is old, weak or worn out. Even with a recharge it may not have sufficient capacity to start to READY anymore. Recharge fully and perform a capacity check to determine if it is up to the task.

A lead acid battery must be kept fully charged all the time or else it will be damaged by sulfation of the plates.

Did you charge the "new" battery before putting into service? New Batteries sit on the shelf and can lose their charge, they are not kept charged at the parts store. Check the date code on the battery to get an idea of it's age.

I thought the same thing, so have it on the charger all night, but I did check voltage and it was over 12 volt... Crazy thing was, my 12 volt died after sitting parked for about a month, I put my 12 volt charger on it, next day got it started and drove around doing several projects. when I pulled it back in my shop to charge the main battery it just would not go up, hence my thoughts on a new battery, I am going to try it again tomorrow and see if it will charge my main battery.. Sort of scary, its not good for more than 40-45 miles now as it is, but if I can not get her charged... Not going to be worth much at at...ratt finks... (smile)

Thank you sooo much for responding I am at a loss on what to do about this dilemma

It could well be that the 12V battery isn’t the main issue here and the OBC is faulty also. One of its jobs (DC/DC section) is to supply low voltage to power all the systems (and charge the aux battery) when in Ready (driving) or charging.

If that’s not working, all the power is coming from the small battery and wears it down quickly, therefore best to check the voltage across the battery terminals in READY (should be >14VDC)

I bought a new battery and left it on the charger all night, unfortunately nothing happened today...drats... when I turn the key on I see bars in the mileage window says about 24 miles and about 6 or 7 bars... Just nothing happens when I turn the key on, nor does that little screen come on when I plug in charger... I am about out of ideas...

To rule out the basics/easy stuff:

Check the fusible links under the red cover on the positive battery terminal. If those are okay, then check the fuses in the boxes under the hood. Then check the fuses under the drivers side dash in the ETACS-ECU.

Kenny thank you soooo much I will try those today. I was thinking this morning maybe there was a way to unplug the main battery and plug back in...you ideas sound perfect, hopefully can just be a fuse... I will let you know the outcome and thanks again, electric car problems are basically unknown to me. Just bought this to play and do short trips with. Jim

UPDATE ON dead Miev... Today I was able to connect to my OB connection with a bit nicer scanner, after farting around with it for quite awhile I found some heading relating to resetting electrical something or other... I pressed reset...and if by magic the yellow car with the warning symbol in the center disappeared... I was able to start the car and move forward and reverse.. I think everything is back to normal, I am plugged in and will know 100% in the morning if the battery is fully charged... Wow was that a puzzler and frustrating moment...when it just would not start... I had several people offer ideas and input thank you so much...

Joe, the scanner I used is a 3 year old Harbor freight scanner Zurich ZR135, probably about $125 back then, now about $150. I was able to actually find the car in its menu, and started scrolling down to all modules, then scrolled down through the list to find something to do with with either battery or motor control system... not having any experience with this stuff, I was taping a trying to reset everything finally pushed one of the clear / reset options and the Yellow car and warning symbol went away... it was a halleluiah moment.... ha ha ha One comment I did find from someone, it once you plug in to the OBD2 port, start trying to connect immediately... My first several times my machine said will not connect. The last one after reading that comment, the minute I plugged it in, I was searching for the car, found it, and clicked connect....and bam...off we went...
