Hello,

I'm Gabor from Budapest, Hungary and this is my first post here.

I'm currently replacing the old radio to a new chinese android based head unit. So far it works fine, I managed to connect the original harness to the unit via ISO adapter. The only thing I miss is the ILL (illumination) signal. No idea which pin to connect. Without it buttons on the display remain dark and the display itself is not dimmed.
Thanks for the suggestions!

Hello and welcome to the forum

Afaik the illumination ‘signal’ is just a 12V (usually orange or white wire) that is active when the lights are turned on

I’ve recently replaced my stock radio in an 2011 built IMIEV (literally plug and play) and sure enough it dims the display when the lights are on.

You can easily check the functionality with a multimeter, if you measure 12V on ISO adapter pin A6 after you turn on the lights, the HW side is working, best to check the settings of the head unit then…

The challenge is that the Fakra-ISO cable I use doesn't convey ILL signal as it only connects to 2x8 pins male "block" and disregards the others. So I will take the multimeter and go through the CAN pins then wire it to the ISO socket.

CAN is data communication, you just need a wire that changes to 12V when the lights are on, not sure if post #6 is relevant for your car but it’s a good start..
Today I disassembled the whole stuff to plug the USB cables and fix GPS antenna. Had no time to look into illumination but I did unplug the harness and took photos from both the wires and the ISO-Fakra plug to see which pins are connected and which are missing. I hope tomorrow I will have more time to check on the wires.

Found it, at last! It's the red cable in the white socket (part no 1394048-1). It's not going through the Fakra-ISO cable so I will connect it directly to the head unit.

Well done, just out of curiosity, have you ever followed the original cable that connects the radio, back into the depths of the car?

I did and was surprised to find it plugged into an ISO connector that turned out to be plug & play with my new head unit??

You must be joking. And I think this way you get button illumination included.
