 Hi,

Oct 2014 Peugeot ION delivered in Germany.

I have TWO perfectly working keys. I got a third key from the previous owner, that key did nothing (not even start the car, for which no battery is required).

I inserted (correctly, plus downwards) a brand new CR1616 (3.3V measured by a multimeter). Made sure the flexible contacts stick out enough to touch the other side. Nothing! One could argue that maybe there is a faulty soldering spot inside, and the key still doesn't get power. But then that doesn't explain why it doesn't start up the car. I can unlock the car remotely with one of the two other keys, then start the car up with the other working key even with its battery removed. So you neither need battery power nor you need to use the key that initially unlocked the car.

I read somewhere that if you have TWO working keys you can very easily pair a third one with the car? Is that just for the theft prevention (RFID chip) or does this also synchronize the remote unlock function? Does anybody have a link to the instructions?

Below a photo of the key. It's NOT the big one with antenna and "mode" button. It has only two buttons: open & lock. Plenty of instruction videos for the big key with the mode button. None for my key.

If the photo doesn't appear, here the Dropbox link:

Howdy Alex,
Based upon that photo there appears to be oxidation and powdery residue inside the covers, and that residue may also be inside the Omron RF module with the circuit board. i would carefully pry that open and take a picture, then inspect and clean especially around the RFID chip.

I recently had one of my original keys "wear out". It will not work in the ignition any more. I purchased a new key, had it cut from my second original key but now realize that I am unable to program (re-code) the newly cut key because I do not have two coded keys that will work in the ignition. Is there anyway around this problem?

Take your original key apart and swap the transponder chip into the newly cut key.

If that not possible, bring your new key and second working key to a locksmith ($$) or a dealer ($$$) or get a Lexia/Diagbox clone ($) and program it yourself, (takes some effort/time but you’ll end up with a dealer grade diagnostic tool for your troubles)

Transponder "switch" between worn out original key and "barely used" original second key solved the problem.
What is a Lexia/Diagbox clone?
Thanks

Good day. I have ion 2015. I made a copy of the immobilizer chip, the key starts the car. Now I want to make the central locking buttons work. I know that on mitsubishi there is such a function as manual programming of buttons by closing contact 1 and 4 on obd and turning on the hazard lights button 6 times. I wonder if anyone has tried programming like this on i-miev? It doesn't work like that on ion(((

Hello and welcome to the forum.

First time I hear about that.

It probably won’t work on an IMiev either, the best way to do this at home is by using an MUT3/Diagbox dealer diagnostic tool:

Впервые об этом слышу
there is an instruction in the xhorse application how to do it on c-zero since they went from i-miev. There are also many videos where it is done on mitsubishi. Of course the key needs to be prepared for a specific car.
