Does anyone know where I might find a used I-Miev battery in the UK? Have searched just about everywhere only to find sweet nothing. Thank you!

Used i-MiEV battery packs do seem to be rare. I guess that reflects the low sales volume and the low mileage typically driven in these cars.

Has your battery range faded or is there another reason you need to replace the battery pack?

A replacement new battery being developed by a small EV business in Australia has finally gone on sale:

YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sSVll_Xh3Dc

The new cells have nearly double the energy density, so the battery capacity increases from 16kWh to about 30kWh. They have figured out how to get the BMS to recognise the larger battery capacity.

The price is listed at AUD 13K which is about £6.5k but that price is based on them keeping the old battery pack. The cells were sourced from China, so it might be possible to arrange for the cells to be sent to UK direct.

The cost is still a lot, but the increased range would make the car more versatile, extending the useful life for another decade or more.

Have you tried

They did have some a couple of years ago.

Secondlife don't anymore and LEV50s are rare as the proverbial hens' teeth. Many older vehicles are failing even with low milage due to a couple of cells in the pack being dead (in my case it was about half the pack needing replacements, but only 5 were "dead" initially)

It looks like the real world lifespan of the cells is about 10 years. Leaving them "on charge" continously isn't a good idea as constant floating isn't good for them and in any case once charged up the controller will diosconnect the pack, not charging again unless the power is cycled. The result is that cars left sitting for prolonged periods eventually suffer overdischarge failures of both the main and 12V batteries

Oz Electric vehicles battery idea is good, with a vastly improved CMU balancer circuit, but the BMU implementation is a bit rough (relies on adding man in the middle modules)

In addition so far they only have one European agent (Slovakia) who can do the work

At least one Russian coder (MMC Coder) has managed to reprogram the BMU entirely for more modern cells.

Marrying the two projects together would be good but I suspect egos will clash - and the current Ukrainian situation makes things decidedly awkward dealing with Russians for anything
