I just finished installing this as well. I was really interested in running CanION, and waze on a bigger screen, so I uninstalled my Pioneer and it will be on its way back to Crutchfield tomorrow. There's more to learn with this unit (the Newsmy NU3001). Some observations so far...

- iPhone 5S connected via bluetooth seems to work fine for both phone and music. Bluetooth seems to automatically connect, but with the OBDII paired, the iPhone doesn't show up in the paired list.

- iPhone 5S as a hotspot for the wifi seems to work fine as well. I downloaded Waze, Pandora and CanION from the google play store without difficulty. I'd like to figure out how to prevent gmail from automatically refreshing and downloading e-mail when the hotspot is connected.

- When I connect the iPhone to the USB, it starts some app that most of the time doesn't seem to do anything, but one time it loaded all my pictures. I wish it wouldn't do that. Hopefully I can find a way to disable that. I'm not very familiar with Android... Anyone?

- The radio goes off when I go into reverse (I have a backup camera installed). This was surprising.

- Lots to learn about CanION. Showing "Random" values for the battery levels (at least that's what they overlay says). I'm wondering if that will go away at some point. I'll have to read up in the CanION thread.

- For the install I had to drill a couple of new holes in the brackets to move the whole unit further forward. I have the factory double-din trim. Tomorrow I'll be going to a local place that will make a custom trim "ring" for me since the opening of the factory trim is more complex (with large radius corners) and the interior dimension is like nothing I could buy online. I'll let you know how it turns out.

- I ordered the 2gb unit, but in Settings->Storage it shows that there is only 0.98gb. Am I looking in the right place?

Thanks for all the great information,

Howie

Hey Howieb - I couldn't find the backup wire necessary for the backup camera to turn on... which one is it ?

It appears the factory micro antenna connector is not the standard type. Is there an antenna adapter you purchased for your aftermarket radio?

Rob, welcome to the forum.

Are you in the US? I've had two different aftermarket radios in my i-MiEV. The antenna connector seems to be standard and fit both radios just fine.

Hi,
Mitsu changed the batteries in 2015. It is impossible now for canion go get individual Temps & Volts....

Would anyone know if I can buy special brackets anywhere to install this double din radio I just purchased ?
The problem is the existing brackets I have that came with the car would normally need to be screwed on the lower part of the radio but this one is like a 1DIN in the back.

The Double Din fascia I bought from China came with two platic brackets but I cant seem to figure out how to use them and attach them to the fascia. There was no instructions manual either :?

Any help would be appreciated.
Mike

Can someone who has installed a double din replacement panel give a little more insight into what they did with the panel clips and how the fitting went? I took the factory clips off the factory panel and installed them onto the replacement panel, they all look like they line up pretty good but the panel doesn't want to clip in all around and all of the clips are not seated and there is about a quarter inch gap and it is loose and rattles so I need to get back to it.

Thanks

Some more info on my install:

I have not played around with it lately - maybe this weekend. Looking for some input from someone who has installed a replacement double din. It is not clipping in. Seems like I will need to modify it somehow. Thanks.

I used this panel:

And here is a video:

I have not worked on it lately - it looks fine in the car but it is loose - I'm planning on working on it this weekend and will post again. I may remove the top 3 connectors and just let it connect with the main ones at the radio. That may do it. Will let you know.

Everyone -

I found that the Chinese-import fascia panel for the double-din upgrade is rather poorly constructed and very cheaply made. It took two months to receive mine, and the quality is not good.

After some digging, I found the ORIGINAL OWM Factory part, and it is being delivered within just a few days! I located it as follows:

Savannah Mitsubishi - https://www.mitsubishipartssource.com/
Part # - 8002A116HC (Same as original poster)
Price: $117.65

So in-case anyone wants to try this and wants the original factory part, here you go :)

Have a great day everyone!

Michael

On the SE with Nav package, the amplifier is located behind the plastic cover on the left rear side (behind the left rear door) - I guess that's called the C-pillar. First remove the plastic threshold guard that runs athwartships at the base of the aft hatch. At the base of that left plastic panel remove one plastic "rivet" (it unsnaps easily) and then the rest of the plastic cover either unsnaps or uncatches to provide access to that amplifier. I'm using one of the heavier 12v inputs to the amp (fused at 20A) as the source for my trailer lighting buffer.
Hi JoeS! Yes, I know this is a rather old post but wondering if you or someone else knows or have pics of the connector or harness for that amplifier. I would like to know if there is one on the ES. I would like to profit the wiring if there is one, rather than home running a wire to the front of the car for a powered subwoofer. Thanks!

Thank you JoeS for the quick reply. I've already removed the panel. I regretfully do not know how the connector looks like, that's why I was asking if there was a pic. Based on what I can see, I do not see a unpopulated connector, hinting that perhaps the harness doesn't have the connector for the ES. Oh well, wishful thinking. I saw the fuse box has the fuse 5 populated, had my hopes high.

We are looking at buying a used 2012 SE. I have already bought a Sony XAV-AX3200 on eBay since I liked the XAV-AX150 which I found locally.

I've been searching and searching. I can't find any harnesses that support the hand controls and/or backup camera found in the SE trim. I'm wondering if we will need an iDataLink Bypass for this system? If anything, I plan on splicing this wiring directly into the new Sony head unit.

Trying to revive the post in the hopes that someone has does so! I had a thought that I could use another Mitsubishi kit and hope for the best. I haven't found anyone who has tried it yet.

I have recently changed the single DIN Kenwood stock radio to a Sony xav-ax1000 double DIN unit I got off eBay

The swap was surprisingly easy, cables were literally plug and play, just the facia needed a bit of a trim.

Works great on my 2011 built I-Miev, (UK version), sound has improved dramatically and Apple Car play (the reason I swapped) is flawless..

Turns out our 2012 i-MiEV is not the "Premium" edition so it does not have hand controls. Swapping from the original radio to a Sony XAV-3500 was pretty easy.

I had to get very creative with some rubber scrap to make a custom pressure-fit mount, however. I wasn't able to modify the stock mount to fit as I thought.

Oh that's pretty nice. Fantastic work.

I will check into that model. Thanks for sharing this.

I'd picked up a Mekede M6ProPlus (M6Plus256-9.5) 8G+256G+360 surround camera kit & TPMS. Android 12 head unit for my Prius last year (actually April 15, 2023) and got it all installed. It has AKM AK7738 converters so sounds incredible.

https://www.mekede.com/q4/3006.html

But had to take it out when I sold the Prius last week. I think it's a bit too big for the i-miev though as it's a 9.5 inch screen. Gorgeous 2K QLED screen too.

I'll have to measure and see how big of a screen will fit in the miev. Maybe order one for it as these units are just incredible sounding and fast too.

I could load all my i-miev apps right onto the home screen for ease of use and tie it into the obd directly. Along with the backup camera.

They probably have an even newer AKM chipset generation on offer by now as I ordered this back in April of 2023. Even then they had one generation newer available. So they probably have a second or third generation of the AKM converters available if one were to check first before ordering. And each one does add a bit more SQ each iteration. But the sound quality is already 2-3x over everything else available on the market.

And by the way, these Chinese android units are about 5 years ahead of all the name brand US/EU units in specs. I did a ton of research on them two years ago and you just can't get these top of the line AKM converters in any of the low and mid-tier decks from the major players. Only Pioneer/Carrozerria's top of the line model has them. And they're the older generation AKM converters. Plus they charge $1000 for their deck and use a proprietary OS. No thanks. These chinese android decks are the way to go for sure. They truly sound incredible and work lightning fast in operation.

There are even custom builds of the OS some guys are making for them to offer additional features if you want to tweak. It's its own rabbit hole.

Just putting this here as a self reference for my unit as I need it to hook it up again right now.
