Adding LED Dome lights in the cargo area

The dome light wires are routed from a connector located at the base of the left "C" pillar (near the rear seat base), along the wheel well to the back, up the rear pillar to the headliner. From the rear dome lamp, the wires go forward to the front lamps. Removing the headliner is not for the...

    What is the battery current?

The gauge in the dash is showing current (amps) only. And you are correct, about 50 amps per "tick". As voltage drops, amperage needs to increase to maintain the same power output. P=I X E.

    Range extender !

If it wasn't for Chevron (slimes) the NiMH battery would be a lot farther on in development. The large format EV-95 Panasonic battery was about to be re-released as a EV-110 (same size, weight) before the Chevron (ex-Texaco) lawsuit that doomed the batteries until the Ovanic patents expire...

Realistic I-miev range for new owner

OT but one more point on towing. The regen level is lowest in the "Drive" mode so that's were I would leave the selector. It would also be a possibility that the regen would stop once the battery pack was fully charged. Case in point is that there is limited or no regen when you first start...

    Benchmarking to measure capacity loss

It sounds like the BMU is adjusting for the age of Malm's battery. The I-MiEV technical information manual has a block diagram on how the BMU calculates battery energy level. Of interest in the calculation is a block labeled "Calculating total amount of battery (including capacity adjustment)...

    Benchmarking to measure capacity loss

According to the chart on page 54D-634 in the service manual, the BMU outputs the current AH capacity of the battery at full charge, the residual AH capacity of the battery (I assume minimum charge), and the highest and lowest internal resistance of any one cell in the pack. That information...

    Horizontally Flipped

It's reversed in a couple of shots-----or it's actually Mitsubishi's low cost way to produce a right hand drive car, just flip the picture

Options for storing an i-MiEV on jack stands for 6 months

Beyond suspensions, make sure you take care of your batteries. Make sure the main battery is charged to somewhere around 50% SOC---these things just don't lose much charge sitting and sitting with a high state of charge isn't recommended. As to the 12 volt battery, you need to put a trickle...

    A Case of Diminishing Return

A little OT but it's apples and oranges between the LEAF/I-MiEV or the Tesla. Both the LEAF and the I-MiEV really fall down when you try to drive them at freeway speeds. The Tesla seems to do much, much better at higher speeds. I guess I should spill the beans here and tell you I got rid of...

Future Battery Replacement - A Better Battery?

The key to a lot of this stuff is how the BMS gets information about the status of the pack. As was pointed out in the last post, the BMS can only detect what is happening with the vehicle mounted pack. If you add an external pack and put it in parallel with the vehicle pack, the BMS still...

    Why do Li-ion Batteries die?

A bit off topic, however why would anyone use L1 if they had the ability to use L2 charge rates with their I-MiEV? The efficiency of the charging cycle is a lot lower during L1 charging due to fixed losses from the 12 volt systems that operate during any charging session. The shorter the time...

    Using electrician's tape ?

I assume you are talking about the EVSE---the box that plugs into the wall outlet. There should be no "gaps" around either cord or any of the indicator lamps. The unit is sealed to keep moisture out. If you have any gaps you should have the unit serviced. Until then, some tape should get you by.

    steering problem

Did you happen to spin the front wheels with the car in the ready position when they were off the ground? That will set all kinds of warning lights. They should go back off once you move the car a few feet with all the tires on the ground. Have you tried to disconnect the 12 volt battery to...

    Range extender !

It's a fun thought to work with a salvage I-MiEV however the electronics are so intergrated that it seems even a burned out bulb will keep it from running. The basic problem is twofold. First, if you want to add batteries from a salvage vehicle to build a larger pack, you run into problems...

    12 kW chademo charging

I initially connected the charger at the battery terminals located in the drive inverter. You take the little cover off and you see the two battery cable ends and the three drive motor connecters. Using a right angled ring terminal I attached a pair of #6 leads to a Anderson connecter to test...

    12 kW chademo charging

Re-reading my post, I messed up a bit---the charge from LBW to 80% is just a little over an hour, not 45 minutes. In any event, although the Chademo Adapter is great, my problem is there aren't any Chademo QC stations within driving range of my I-MiEV. However there are plenty of J1772 public...

    12 kW chademo charging

I actually charge my I-MiEV with a 12 KW charger. I removed the factory QC connector and replaced it with a 175 amp Anderson connector. I tapped into the control circuit for the QC charging relays under the back seat and installed a switch to control them on the dash. Using a Manzanita Micro...

    Salvage i-MiEV for sale

I looked at that a couple of days ago. I would think someone who bought one of the many "flood" cars out there would be jumping all over this one.

    Mitsubishi stupidity

When I leased my first I-MiEV it was kind of as a joke. I drove by the dealer and there they were with zero down and a $99 per month lease. For that kind of money, why not get one for the heck of it. I drove a LEAF and had another car that ran on compressed natural gas (for longer range...

    THE I-MiEV STILL AMAZES

At least you put the Jersey cow in head first. It could have been much worse if you had put her in backwards. There's a lot worse things then bad breath  !
