    10 Year's Owner

Yeah, I'm not sure if it's the angle of the cars or how light interacts with camera sensors, but the white one always looks larger in every picture. It was actually important for me to take a "family" portrait as Koorz (silver) is going to be sold soon. Pittsburgh is not too kind to vehicles...

    10 Year's Owner

My goodness. I can't believe it's been 10 years since I drove Bear off of the showroom floor. What a decade it has been. Owning a stable of EVs, there are things that Mitsubishi got right with this car that other major manufacturers have not. The speed-sensitive wipers are still superior to...

    Winter Icy Roads

Regen isn't a problem with this car. It reacts quickly, and if there is a hint of the rear wheels sliding, regen drops out. There's no issue having regen enabled and using the regular brakes. The car does well to maintain traction in pretty much any conditions. I've only successfully gotten the...

Caution - New old stock tires

I don’t know if this will be an issue going forward, but the last tires I bought for Koorz (I believe 2018 and 2019) had to be replaced today due to dry-rot. The front treads were separated so badly I could almost fit my pinky in the cracks (Yokohama), and the rear tires had splits in the...

    Cooling pump behavior

The coolant pump runs on a time cycle and doesn't appear to be temperature based. There's no real rhyme or reason to it running. There may be some temperature override at some point to run the pump and radiator fan to prevent overheating, but as far as I know, nobody has ever gotten their car...

Aptera Petition to adopt Tesla Charging Standard

Things are happening from this petition. Latest from Tesla: https://www.tesla.com/blog/opening-north-american-charging-standard Not to spoil it, but the claims about voltage and power limits are only relevant to pre-existing connectors and ports. The standard itself can handle much more.

Better Charging Infrastructure, the Real Reason Tesla is at the top

https://www.msn.com/en-us/autos/news/i-used-a-tesla-supercharger-for-the-first-time-and-discovered-one-of-the-best-reasons-to-buy-a-car-from-elon-musk/ar-AA11PVdl#image=AA11Q31f|2 Huh, you don't say? This is why I've always been skeptical when a new EV comes out and reviewers proclaim it's a...

    i-MiEV and Chocolate

Oh, boy. Got two spam posts here, but kinda wanted to just bump this article for morale. It's nice to see positive press every once in a while.

New owner with cabin preconditioning questions

I'm not sure if you came across any of my posts, but I found that using the HEAT setting for 5 minutes, and them switching to Defrost was the most effective for me. This keeps the fan speed low while the coolant is heated, and then defrost can more effectively heat the cabin with a higher fan...

i-MiEV Not AC Charging, (Was No DTCs), 12v dc-dc OK

Thought I'd ask. Glad that it's not VIN-matched.

i-MiEV Not AC Charging, (Was No DTCs), 12v dc-dc OK

Dumb question, but is the OBC one of the VIN-matched parts?

My 2012 Won't Go Into Ready Mode - SOLVED!

Ah, yes. The ol' Park but not Park. Quick way to tell is to look at the dash. If none of the shifter positions have a black background, the switch isn't fully in place. Giving the shifter an extra nudge up and away from you should be enough to get the gearbox fully into Park, and the P on the...

Has anyone successfully had a warranty replacement for degradation?

I know somebody who just recently got a new pack under warranty (not for degradation, though. The pack was bricked) and it restored their 2012 US model to full original range using new or like-new LEV50N cells. I helped them diagnose it and CaniOn reported all cells at 0 volts, pack voltage at...

Last Minute - Lancaster, PA EV Car Show

Apologies for the last minute notice, but there is an EV car show in Lancaster, PA tomorrow, September 2. I'll be there with my Bolt, and there is supposed to be an EV1 in attendance, as well.

    Losing Charge When Parked Up

Given that you have a very early i-MiEV (2009), it may not behave like most of our cars. The drop in SoC wouldn't be caused by heat or A/C. My guess is that the instrumentation isn't calibrated to the actual capacity of the battery. The car is expecting less voltage sag (from assuming more...

    Corporate Stupidity

(This could end up being a very long thread) The fun continues with Chrysler. There is a new (yet another) fire recall, this time related to the drive battery. I haven't confirmed, but I suspect they also use LG pouch cells and are suffering the same problem as Chevy. They have no idea on a fix...

Replace Low Beam (H11) Head Light Bulbs

I have headlight restorer, but it only lasts a few days.

Replace Low Beam (H11) Head Light Bulbs

(That was a tricky one, but took care of a spam post) The headlights on both of my cars all still work, but a decade of parking outside has taken its toll on the assemblies themselves. They have glazed over. Replacement assemblies cost about $1,000 for the pair. Jenn, glad to still see you...

    Hypermiling the i-MiEV

Here are the numbers from this morning's drive in Koorz. I have a hard time believing this number, considering the car has not moved in the last month+ and I had low tire pressure. I wasn't even trying to hypermile, though I did deploy a few efficient driving techniques. Thoughts?

    BMU firmware mods

I don't think going beyond 95 Ah would be necessary for many owners. Doubling the original range makes the car a lot more useful, but for traveling further than that, I'd likely take something else anyway. The i-MiEV isn't the easiest car to drive on the highway. For comfort and aerodynamics...
