Not sure if this is the right place for this, but here is a Kickstarter campaign for a Tesla charging adapter. The 'Miev is listed as a possibility with the J1772 plug:

Phximiev, I moved your post into its own thread. Hope you don't mind.

As for the adapter, I was wondering when someone was going to do it. One really can't get ahold of a Tesla inlet port unless a wrecked Model S is purchased.

Hopefully this doesn't cause problems with Tesla.

I don't mind at all. However, I do wonder if anyone on the list intends to buy into this campaign? It would seem that anyone who has a longer commute or travels more than the usual may benefit from this.

:?:

I would need to investigate Plugshare. I'd like to have one, but I'm not sure if I could benefit from it. Most of the Tesla HPWC locations also have a Clipper Creek J1772 unit available.

I am going to order one (via Kickstarter) tomorrow. It will make the Tesla HPWC hanging on my wall more useful as it can then charge J1772 vehicles. No---it cannot "supercharge" your I-MiEV but there are a lot of Tesla HPWC's in the wild and they will work just like any level 2 EVSE does with the I-MiEV. Tesla has placed the HPWC's in many destination areas away from Superchargers to attract customers to a specific business. Tesla provides a J1772 to Tesla connector with every car so they can charge at the bulk of the level 2 EVSE's out there. So, the reverse is fair game. However, as the owner of the business where the HPWC's are located is providing the space and electricity to run them, it is imperative that you ask the owner or their representative if it is OK to use them.

Please let us know how it works out. Also, I've never done a Kickstarter campaign myself - I'm curious how all of that works. I suppose one could do a Kickstarter for an electric car design.

Kickstarter campaign start date has been moved to September 16th for some reason. However, (like all Kickstarter projects) the money paid is to develop the product and get it into production. The price paid is also to set the price of the item you will receive. In essence, you are risking your money, in this case $199 to receive the adapter in a roughly six month period. The guy behind this is named Tony Williams. I don't know him but he has been active on several EV forums and has owned several different EV's. First came across him when I had my RAV4-EV and he was quite active in modifying/supporting them. He is also involved in EVSE adapters and modifications. If one of these adapters interests you then you should consider risking the money. It fits a direct need for me and while I am not endorsing anything or anybody the upside of having the adapter is worth the $199 risk. There are other workarounds but it would require changing out the connector and/or the connector and cable assembly on the HPWC. This approach would cost more than the adapter and make it impossible to use the HPWC on a future Tesla vehicle without changing parts. Of course you could never charge a J1772 vehicle on the road at a HPWC with out it. Link is below:

Having both a Tesla HPWC and UPC available at home, this will provide a great backup for the i-MiEVs as well as providing higher-power J1772 capability. I'll be signing up! Good to know that Tony Williams is behind this, but, like all kickstarter campaigns, I won't be holding my breath. I sincerely hope that when these adapters get deployed that the users maintain proper etiquette.

Hopefully just a glitch---however second delay. I was hoping to be an early adapter adopter

At his booth at Saturday's Electric Auto Association event we talked about the Kickstarter project (he said he just needs to make a quick video) so I suggested that he provide the reason for the delay - I see now that it's been put off until September 24. He's simply one very busy person!

Over on the Leaf forum there is a parallel thread to this one, and which Tony Williams posts to. Same impatience and questions as here, with the last post by Tony which can be taken in a number of ways.

Since he hasn't taken down the webpage about the jDapter nor updated it, I can only surmise that he is one very busy person!

Left a message yesterday about the adapter and Tony called me back about it. He says it is going to be produced and has been in redesign as another member stated. He said we are looking at about a six month time period before they will be available. If you need to do something now, the cable of the HPWC and connector can be replaced with a $199 setup (limited to 40 amps) or a $299 setup for the full 80 amp output. BTW --- the 80 amp option is currently backordered. Because I am not in a rush for the adapter (I have other EVSE's) I should just wait for the "Jdapter" to be manufactured and not mess with the cable/connector change. Maybe the Model 3 will arrive before the adapter, maybe not. :D !

What we're talking about is the ability to convert a Tesla EVSE into a J1772 power source.

Still no news about Tony Williams' $200 product, despite numerous ads still popping up.

In the meantime, here's an expensive ($400) equivalent:

If I were going cross-country in an i-MiEV, I would have one of these in my bag of tricks, as there are many hotels/motels with Tesla HPWC.

You might want to give Tony Williams a call and tell him about your need for an adapter such as the Jadapter but you cannot wait for it. A few months ago, there was a promotional code to get $160.00 off the $399.00 list price for the J stub. I know it's true because I bought one for $239.00 on the 30th of August this year. I have a Tesla HPWC and really wanted to use it with my Volt and my Victory Empulse motorcycle. The adapter works great on all of the vehicles I have tried it on and is nicely manufactured.

I wish I still had the code, but I put it on the order paperwork and didn't write it down. It is not shown on my receipt, just the $160.00 adjustment. They are pretty good people and might still have this deal or could cut you a deal just to be nice. It's worth asking anyway.

BTW--if I find the code I will edit and post it here :)

Found it! The promo code is (was) --- JDapter239---- Give it a try if you are interested.

I don't follow Tony Williams' business very closely- does anyone know if he (or a qualified third party) has evaluated the residential CHAdeMO unit being offered by his competition? https://www.evseadapters.com/products/portable-chademo-quick-charger At $3700, it's only 19% more expensive than upgrading a RAV4 or Roadster to accept CHAdeMO in the first place, and is also approx the same price as adding a Brusa charger to a 2011-12 LEAF for the same 6.6 kW charging capability.
