I managed to replace the radio with a cheap chinese head unit. So far so cool but despite using a generic 1 DIN frame the whole device sits loose. And I haven't found a specific frame. It rattles during driving all the way. Really annoying. I wonder if anyone overcame this issue.

Did your new head unit came with a metal frame to fit into?

I'd say the gap is between the DIN and the plastic frame. The original FM radio unit has a bit thicker chassis that fits well in the plastic frame plus there are bumps on both sides allowing the unit to simply "click" when placed in.
The I-MIEV stock radio came with a metal frame that fitted nicely into the stock facia, my first idea was to re-use the frame but I ended up modifying the facia instead. But maybe that will work for you (remove the frame from the original radio and fit the aftermarket version into it)?
