California Residents PG&E E-7

Pacific Gas & Electric, the huge for-profit monopoly power provider to central and northern Californiia, is just about to rescind the very-advantageous time-of-use E-7 rate structure, with next-to-no warning. E-7 provides for high On-Peak (noon-6pm) rates and low 6pm-noon Off-Peak rates.

The option of switching to TOU rate E-6 (nowhere near as good as E-7 with different times and Partial-Peak rates as well) will run out at the end of this month. What we'll be left with are rate structures that will cost us hundreds of $/year more than E-7.

I was notified by my solar installer and not PG&E. Suggest everyone with E-7 review your options NOW, while you can still make the switch. I haven't done the math yet, but my solar installer is suggesting that I switch to E-6 while I still can.

The final design and tariff sheets for E-TOU-A and E-TOU-B are not yet available.

I'm incredulous that a change with such major ramifications is being foisted upon us with virtually no warning.

Yes, the CPUC and the monopoly are jacking up the rates again. They already penalize EV owners in the SF bay; area that rate is higher than E6.

Today, 18 days before it is to go into effect, I received an email from PG&E informing me of the changeover, but not providing clear-cut information that I only had this time if I wanted to switch over to the E-6 rate (they implied that E-6 was closed). A couple of days ago I had made the switchover to E-6. My friend who did the same thing managed to get the change to be effective 2/29 whereas when I asked for that they told my it was to go into effect only on my "meter-read" date of February 15th.

Since I have so many batteries lying around here I'm already scheming to build my own Tesla Wall as a buffer for the sundown-to-7pm Peak rate - my house is all-electric, and the 240vac stove must take a bite. Trouble is, it would probably take a long time to amortize a synchronized 48vdc-->240vac grid-tied inverter. Need to do the math after I get some data...

I like how in the first line of the document they more or less blame the regulatory agency for the elimination of E7. Not that anyone pushed for it with a full team of high priced lawyers or anything. Anyone like the utility conglomerate for instance. Pathetic spin is always hallmark of a dishonest player!
