Are most 2012 iMiev at say 40 000 miles loosing what % off the battery ,is there a shelf life ?

Hello and welcome to the forum. I don't think we've established a 'normal degradation curve' yet. Look at Malm's posts for the most extreme example. EVen with lots of very deep discharges over the past 55,000 miles my 2012 is still showing more than 62 RR on most mornings, and I am not a gentle driver. I haven't used Canion in a while, but that's what it would take to discern any loss.

I would say it is both mileage and time related.

My 2012 with 11K miles which I have had for a couple weeks now shows 68-73 miles range remaining every morning and the EVBatmon app shows 82.something % capacity and 39.something AH @ 100% state of charge.

so would you say that with a full charge your rr is the best indicator of the battery heath ?

Negative - The RR gauge doesn't tell you anything about the condition of the battery. All it tells you is how you drove the car for the past 15 miles, which is the history that the gauge averages to come up with it's numbers

With a brand new car, if you drove the last 15 miles at 75 mph on the freeway and then recharged, you might see an RR number in the high 40's or low 50's, while if you drove slowly before the recharge, a car with 50,000 miles on it might still show you an RR of 70 or more

The EV Batmon app will give you the most definitive number with regard to the battery health
