New Owner - Ben got an iMiEV - Again!

In my house, my water heater is natural gas, so going solar with water wouldn't save me electricity (but it would save me gas, and I AM planning on doing that in the long run!) For the garage, I'm looking at trying to find a way to do some wood heat out there, or possibly a pellet stove...

Generally just feels less cold. Hard to make an exact comparison, because I'm trying to compare how I remember last winter compared to this winter (now with insulation.) Overall, I think it's an improvement.

New Owner - Ben got an iMiEV - Again!

Here's the thing with solar hot water vs solar electric: I'm already going to have a WHOLE bunch of solar electric set up. All the solar panels match each other, use the same racking, need the same permitting, and I pretty much need to do the same work and meet the same requirements and...

I probably will try to trim the very top of the pine tree, to stunt its growth. And again, this time of year is WORST CASE SCENARIO for solar. The rest of the year, the shadows are nothing like this. Now just imagine if I tried a GROUND mount for solar!

Insurance companies routinely rate WHITE cars as the safest overall. The thought is that the more light a car reflects, the more likely it is to be seen in overall conditions. Black is TERRIBLE at night. I think that the best color to be seen would be "safety colors" such as "Hunting Season...

New Owner - Ben got an iMiEV - Again!

I can't get the garage doors in until the ceiling goes in (as that's what the door tracks mount to!) I might just block off the openings with construction plastic or something. It's really only a problem if it's snowing and the wind is blowing north, which it was a bit last night. Here's what...

New Owner - Ben got an iMiEV - Again!

Hey Guys! Yep, lots of adventures lately, mostly tearing down my garage. I've also used the towing ability a fair number of times. Pulling a 12'x6' utility trailer works great! For the garage, the plan is to rebuild, larger, with insulation, heat, and lots of solar panels on the roof. In the...

    Car won't start after storage

Great to hear it. Sounds like it was exactly how it should go!

    Car won't start after storage

How was the experience with the dealership? Was everything straight-forward with the battery replaced under warranty the way it is supposed to? I always like hearing the ends of these types of stories. One common misconception about EVs is that the batteries are expensive and have to be...

    Car won't start after storage

Weird how so many things were showing up totally messed up in CanIon on my device, but showed up properly on yours! Yep, clearly, that one cell is an issue!

    Car won't start after storage

I did press the accelerator pedal down and up a number of times, as it was a nice way to see that I was getting correct and current information streaming live from the car to the bluetooth adapter and phone. (The accelerator position would vary in real-time on the phone.) The "Wh/km History"...

    Car won't start after storage

Yep, lots of numbers were out of whack, or completely out of their possible range. So, I would imagine that would mean one of the computers is not working right, or one cell being so messed up that it's really funking up other things. On CanIon, the cell voltages were not displayed at all...

    Car won't start after storage

I got to stop over and take a look at this car today with my ODBLinkMX bluetooth adapter and cheap LG Android phone running CanIon138. First thing we did was check the 12V batteries, both the original flooded iMiEV 12V battery and the recent replacement. Both tested fine with the multimeter...

    Car won't start after storage

Hi karellen. Please check your private messages. I just sent you one. I live about an hour from Madison and could probably help you. I have a good multimeter, battery load tester, ODBII device for the iMiEV and a couple other tools that would be handy to see if we can figure out what's wrong...

What to do with my dead iMiEV?

The charging ports are gasketed. Both were in perfect condition. No corrosion at all. I'm not sure how high flood-water got. It got high enough to get sediment in the headlights and for water to get into the battery, which I think it does through the front air vents.

What to do with my dead iMiEV?

I almost forgot. Two great parts that were in perfect condition were the J1772 and CHAdeMO charging ports. I pulled the J1772 off and built a power adapter from it for my motorcycle.http://300mpg.org/2015/03/31/the-diy-j1772-charging-adapter/ The CHAdeMO port is still on the car, and likely...

What to do with my dead iMiEV?

Hi Folks, As some of you may recall, I have a raspberry iMiEV which I had purchased through an auto auction with "Water Damage". It turned out that the car only had 50 miles on it, but it was at the Staten Island Mitsubishi dealership when SuperStorm Sandy came through. I did a little work on...

    iMiEV as workhorse

Great, now I REALLY want to mount my "Solar Death Ray" to my iMiev hitch to make a solar cooker for tailgating.

I do still have the raspberry water-damaged iMiEV. The electronics are shot. Body panels are all brand new. There's only a few parts missing off of it, most notably the rims. If somebody wants to buy parts, or the whole thing, make me an offer. It even has a clean title.
