Decyphering iMiEV and iON CAR-CAN message data

You are right Serhge. This is an error in the presentation. The battery contains 22 blocks of 4 cells. The blocks are arranged in 12 modules, 10 with 2 blocks and 2 with one block each. The temperature sensors are between cells in each block. That means 66 temperature readings for 88 cells. I...

How good is the car's range prediction

This graph shows the error in the rest or remaining range (RR) predicted by the car. Each dot is a "trip" consisting of continuous data. I found them by dividing my recorded data into trips in which the largest change in the odometer (odo) or the RR was 1 km. This means that larger changes such...

    Battery Capacity Testing

The black dots in the graph above are battery capacities for 44 German owned iMiev/CZero/iOns collected by datom. There is a link in his post above. The green curve is my model (Ah = 50.4 -1.14*ln(km)) for battery aging discussed in an earlier post. It looks like my car’s capacity deteriorated...

    Battery Capacity Testing

datom's German data shows a much more drastic decline in capacity than I'm predicting. I seem to remember reading that a Li-ion battery can have a long period with constant capacity followed by a sudden decline. The German data supports this.

    Battery Capacity Testing

In an earlier post BlueLightning suggested measuring the fully charged battery capacity by comparing the change in kWh with the change in SoC while charging. I have done something similar using measurements of amps to the battery and the SoC collected from my CZero now and then over the last 4...

When and how the car adjusts its estimate of the battery capacity

I'm fairly sure that canion reports SoC 1 because it never exceeds 100%. SoC 2 does on occasion. EvBatMon reports both and so does OBDZero. I used OBDZero to collect the data.

[Solved: Piev's Strange New Pack] Voltage vs SOC graph or table ?

If the charger charged the battery to more than 4,1 volts per cell then that would speed up battery aging.

[Solved: Piev's Strange New Pack] Voltage vs SOC graph or table ?

Here is some data from my car. All of these measurements were recorded when the load on the battery was less than 1 amp. The spread is probably due to varying temperatures. Apparently a combination of 352 volts and 67 % SoC is possible. However 330 volts should give much more than 10% equal to...

[Solved: Piev's Strange New Pack] Voltage vs SOC graph or table ?

Here is a graph of Voltage as a function of SoC and current at 25oC. It’s based on lab data for a new LEV50 cell shown in the technical report “Development of a Large Sized Lithium Ion Cell “LEV50” and its Battery Module “LEV50-4” for Electric Vehicle” by Kitano et.al. Let me know if this fits...

When and how the car adjusts its estimate of the battery capacity

Some days ago I recorded the data shown in the graph above. SoC 1 the red line is the state of charge we normally use. It is the first byte in the 374 PID. SoC 2, the green line, is the second byte in the 374 PID. Capacity, the blue line is the car’s estimate of the present fully charged battery...

Decyphering iMiEV and iON CAR-CAN message data

I’d like to add two more PID values that I found. 374 (D1 -10)/2 = SoC1 374 D7/2 = C the car’s estimate of the battery’s present capacity in Ah. We have known for some time that 374 (D2 -10)/2 is the SoC. I believe that this SoC, SoC2, is based on the battery voltage. When the battery is...

hobdrive - and i-MIEV ion zero, show electronic control units, reset errors

Hi Toby I can't tell if your problem is solved yet. If not, you could try sending to me the PID file saved by OBDZero. If you record for more than 10 min. while charging or discharging it would help. The battery data has probably been moved to another PID or the method of computing has changed...

Decyphering iMiEV and iON CAR-CAN message data

I have noticed that my CZero seems to use more amps while discharging than it stores in the battery while charging. This must be wrong because it would eventually lead to negative values for the Ah remaining in the battery. At the same time, a possible error in the amps measurement is mentioned...

Cost to replace an i-miev battery?

Hi kiev I did a search and found your posts on the battery replacement. Luckily I don't need a new battery but I did asked about the price at the dealer. They quoted 100,000 Dkr. which is about $15,000 US. There are still low mileage iMiev/CZero/iOns around for much less.

Decyphering iMiEV and iON CAR-CAN message data

I can see that I haven’t followed the standard set by garygid at the start of this tread. I’d like to add some PIDs that I found. If I repeat early finds I apologize. Parameter PID (hex)Bytes Computation (integers) Units Remark Steering 236 0,1 (byte0*256+byte1-4096)/2 degrees centered = 0 degrees Gear 285 6 if byte6 = 12 then park or...
