I'm buying a non-runner MIEV here in Japan!

So no broken motor? no broken gearbox? Aren't you glad you didn't tear that thang apart. It sure looks good--like brand new

Don't waste any money on ceramic or any brake pads--once you learn to shift to B you won't need to use the brakes much at all. :ROFLMAO:

Ion 2012. Will not charge AC, only DC. No active codes indicating any useful (after OBC Swap = Yellow car) [Resolved]

There is a dedicated thread for the Troubleshooting and Repair of the OBC, with an index and links to all the internal circuits, plus the wiring diagram for the gray connector. https://myimiev.com/threads/the-troubleshooting-and-repair-for-on-board-charger-obc-thread.4079/post-49885 Do a...

    Main Traction Battery Upgrade i-MiEV

During my search for cells to replace the LEV50, i bought a module of SDI 94 A-hr cells used in a BMW, too bad they were just a little bit too big to fit in the box. But the buss bars were al-u-mini-um strips 1.8 mm thick x 30mm wide that were welded to the aluminum terminal blocks. i used a...

    Main Traction Battery Upgrade i-MiEV

CMB is the Cell Monitoring Board, sometimes called CMU boards. The little flex tab pcb attached with 3 white blobs doesn't have a name that i know of. There is not a washer on the flange nuts, just that the bottom flange surface seems to be dished or coned very slightly similar to a belleville...

    Main Traction Battery Upgrade i-MiEV

i measured 17mm diameter for the flange nuts (smooth bottom not serrated) and 18 mm width of the buss bars, 2mm thick and 70.5 long. They appear to be punched out of copper with a dull silver-colored plating.[likely matte tin plating] the pad on the CMB is 8mm square. The bottom of the flange...

    Main Traction Battery Upgrade i-MiEV

i think they could be made only as wide as needed to match copper pad on the flex tab on the CMBs, i.e. 8mm Use aluminum and round off or radius all the sharp edges and transitions to eliminate stress risers. Like an oval shape tapered the entire length. 12mm at the bolt end tapered down to 8...

I think it's just one bad cell...

Nice graph. Looks like a weak cell that got out of balance, and there is just no way to charge it and get it back. Bleed balancing can only correct small differences by burning down the good cells to the weak cell's level. 20mV is a huge amount to bleed off of a LEV 50 A-hr cell at only...

I'm buying a non-runner MIEV here in Japan!

We are curious-- so fill us in about trying to start to READY without the motor windings attached? Is this a troubleshooting and diagnostic step for motor drive inverters? Could the inverter do any sort of self check that energizes the windings, and would fail? Would it be a graceful...

The visual appearance of the die pads under the clear gel looks good for the newest MCU (#3), especially when compared to the burnt pads and bondwires in MCU #1. Just fyi, The "M" is for MegaOhms, 1,000,000's "k" is for kilo, 1,000's and "m" is for mili, 0.001's Checking a capacitor using...

Ion 2012. Will not charge AC, only DC. No active codes indicating any useful (after OBC Swap = Yellow car) [Resolved]

The 5-second time-out is usually due to a failure in the AC Input section. The session will start with normal pump and contactor clacking noises, and the relay in the EVSE will click ON to supply AC to the car, but the OBC will not detect that AC has made it to the waffle plate. Your earlier...

I'm buying a non-runner MIEV here in Japan!

Several years ago i bought 2 OBC and 2 MCU thru a Japanese auction site The price was very low, but the shipping was a nightmare to arrange and the cost was very high. Then, when i finally got them-- they were broken. So from my experience i am skeptical of used parts from Japan, and would...

Ion 2012. Will not charge AC, only DC. No active codes indicating any useful (after OBC Swap = Yellow car) [Resolved]

It's unusual to have so many U-codes, which are CAN Buss fault codes. The P1A12 is thrown for any internal OBC fault for abnormal Stop during charging. The troubleshooting seems to focus on the CAN Buss, and this caution is right up top: So does the OBC not work due to an internal fault, or...

That's what i was worried about, if the gate drivers were blown and shorted out, it might cause both the top and bottom gates to come ON at the same time--that could cause a 2000 Amp spike, yikes! Probably a good idea to inspect that the devices are OK. Make some measurements (diode drop...

I think it's just one bad cell...

Looks like 200 mV lag on cell #7 at the top, with close to 300mV at lower SOC. Looks like a weak or worn out cell that needs to be replaced; a CAN bridge would only mask it and too risky to let that cell go too low without warning.

Mickey and i are on the same channel on this, i was trying to write up a similar response just now too. :) All the testing seems to have ruled out the motor as culprit: no short to chassis, or phase to phase, and bemf response is as expected. Hopefully the old control board did not command...

I'm buying a non-runner MIEV here in Japan!

Resistance is a static measurement from phase to phase. No wheel spin for that. It appears that your meter was reading 000.0 Ohms, which is basically zero. The resistance is likely in the milli-ohm region which your meter may not be able to measure. What about measuring resistance from...

Just a post listing the resistance would be fine. The utube videos are not playing with message "Sign in to confirm you're not a bot" There is a reason why i asked that you only turn the key to ON after clearing the codes, and then check which codes reappear without starting (looking at the...

Did you try turning a wheel while 2 phases were connected together (shorted phase test), and also with all 3 connected together?

I'm buying a non-runner MIEV here in Japan!

The reason to only jack up one side is to lock up the differential in the gearbox so that the rotation of the wheel will primarily back drive the motor rather than spin the wheel on the other side. The spin direction doesn't really matter, just whichever is easier. Either side is fine too, i...
