    CHAdeMO or no CHAdeMO question

The easy way to spot if a particular car is a 2012 or not is that all newer models (2014, 2016, 2017) had the door trim around the side windows blacked out. 2012 models had body color window trim, with the exception being the two-tone white with blue. Only this doesn’t apply to Black I-MiEVs...

    Add another OBC Failure

Made it home last night after a near full charge on level 2 (I unplugged before it finished). Went home, fully charged on level 1 with no issues. Back at work, it fully charged on level 2 with no issues. Could it be the MiEV remote transceiver having issues and not the charger? A level 1...

    Add another OBC Failure

Well, it charged to 7 bars on level 1. I just moved it back to level 2 and so far, so good. :?

    Add another OBC Failure

Both with door open and closed, although I did get it to charge on level 1 just now with the door closed. I’ll let it get some charge, then try level 2 again.

    Add another OBC Failure

My charging troubles have returned. Been driving Koorz this week and charging at work. Day one and two, everything was fine. Day three, had one hiccup but a replug fixed it. Today, I replugged four times, then switched to a different station and replugged a few more times, each time the car only...

    Life with Electric Vehicles

All, I would like to announce my plans to start a new video channel on LBRY (pronounced “library”). This new channel will go back to basics and go over all the simple things about electric cars; charging, driving, operating, etc. I plan to cover a variety of different vehicles, including the...

    DC-DC Converter always on

The stock MiEV remote that handles charge timers and pre-conditioning won’t work. It can check the battery charge at any time when it’s near the car, but it requires the car being plugged in before it can activate the high voltage system. Maybe there’s a way to sniff the CANbus and see what...

    DC-DC Converter always on

I still have my doubts. For the DC-DC converter to work, high voltage has to be engaged for the whole car and the DC-DC itself needs an activation command from the EV-ECU. The car would physically be READY if the converter was active. What would do the trick is figuring out a remote start...

Car on charge, now won’t run (asking for someone else)

Got word yesterday that the owner is getting a new battery pack under warranty, so the 8 to 10 year warranty bump is for real.

    Global Warming's Terrifying New Math

My panels are surprisingly productive, making around 54 kWh for each of the past two days when I would expect about 40 kWh (when the sun does shine through, it looks like it did during our solar eclipse a few years ago, sunny but dim). The large solar project I was a part of last year (pictures...

    Global Warming's Terrifying New Math

Scary times on the west coast. Hope everyone is staying safe from the fires. No wildfires in Pittsburgh, but we can see the smoke from here . It actually cooled us off about 10-15 degrees and made for some interesting sunsets. Today’s high was 69 F, last Saturday (9-12) was in the...

    DC-DC Converter always on

Watch the dome lights when you plug the car in. After a couple seconds, you should see them get slightly brighter. As for the original question, due to the car’s design, I doubt there would be much energy savings if you can get just the DC-DC powered up without full READY.

    Battery current sensor

Yes. US I-MiEVs show miles for RR. We’re stuck with 24-hour only clocks, but it does show miles for everything. I haven’t heard about the 60 Ah limit. Good to know.

    Battery current sensor

Would this be a necessary step? I seem to recall that the BMS will slowly recalculate total battery capacity to allow larger capacity cells and that no modifications were necessary.

Warning Codes - Car with ! Exclamation Mark

When I first got Koorz, we had it at an event and accidentally left the marker lights on too long. This is the exact thing I got when the car failed to start. The battery had discharged enough to where the car couldn’t start, but everything still lit up. I charged the 12 volt battery and the car...

Car on charge, now won’t run (asking for someone else)

Went to look at the car last night. When the key is turned on, the charge gauge is empty, RR displays ---, and the RBS and MCU Warning Lights are on. Opening up CaniOn, the battery cell voltage and temperature graphs wouldn't even load. My thought here was no communication with the battery...

    Porsche Taycan

Anyone see the new Porsche Taycan yet? I happened across one at a charging station yesterday. It appears to have two charge port doors, one on each side. Can it plug in on either side?

Car on charge, now won’t run (asking for someone else)

I know it is. The best I got is that there is a CAN error code, but no clue what it is. Will let you know what I find.

Car on charge, now won’t run (asking for someone else)

I got an email from another i-MiEV owner looking for help with their car. From what I’ve gathered so far, the car spent a day plugged in, then when they went to drive it, it wouldn’t start (exclamation mark light and no READY). They also said that when trying to start, the car doesn’t make any...
