I don't know why but the rear wheel arches on the gasoline 'i' are some kind of rust trap, I hear. Mine has surface rust in little patches in the same place both sides.

It might be too early to say on the US 'i' and they might have solved the problem. But perhaps worth having a look? I couldn't say what preventive measures one could take as it's a puzzle why rust would start there...
