When you look at it from that perspective, WOW! Since getting my i-MiEV, having to drive my wife's ICE car makes me realize how inefficient ICE vehicles are. Particularly sitting at a stop light. The engine continues to consume gas and shake the vehicle, all held back by the brakes (automatic transmission).
 
Yes, and at least 75% of all the gasoline gets wasted as heat to be dumped out into the air via the radiator, and the hot exhaust system, and hot brakes.

Say you are paying $4/gallon of gasoline - you are throwing $3 of that out into the air as heat. A pretty poor bang for the buck!
