Hey everyone, looking for advice. I have a 2012 iMiEV I bought new in Oct 2013 in Dallas. Mileage at 64,573 mi. I'm the original owner, no accidents.

In Sept 2024 I moved to the Kansas City area and trailed it on a car trailer behind a UHaul. A month ago it stopped charging randomly. I got the main battery replaced in December 2021 under warranty (took two months) - now seems awesome and everything else seems great. Don't have the tools or know how to check the current battery capacity.

The local Mitsubishi dealership service guys says it's going to need $4,500 to replace the OBC (error codes they got are Code 1: P1A12, OBC abnormal stop, and Code 2. OBC 02 Load connection abnormal (main battery not connected)). I have not made the repair and would prefer to sell the car.

Does anyone have any advice on the best way to sell my car to someone who would want it in current condition? Will anyone want it? I'd rather sell it to someone who loves the car and could use the battery and other parts, or fix it themselves, then to just take it to the junk yard. Seems a 3-year old battery would be worth something. Interior is also leather seats, tinted windows, (I got these added in 2013 because it had been on the lot 6 months and no one wanted it), and the upgraded SE package with allow wheels, wheel locks, navigation, backup cam, etc.

Appreciate any thoughts. Matt

Hi Matt

There is a good chance that this can be repaired DIY style for a couple of bucks if you’re ‘handy’ with a soldering iron (or know someone that is).

Given that your battery is only 3 years old and the car seems in great nick, my advice would be to have a go to try and repair it first, either to keep or sell it at a much higher price as ‘fully functional’ afterwards.

I’m guessing you went to the same dealership in KC that I did. Mine took nearly a month for them to say my 2 year old battery was bad and after I declined a $13k battery, they offered me $500 for the 22k mile iMiev with new tires!

Good luck.

What a great looking well cared for car you have there!

Definitely save that gem with a quick repair of the OBC for not much money. Even if you still sell it on.

It's got so much more left in her.

OBCs aren't that much if you want to replace the whole unit. Takes like two hours if you've never done it before. There are videos online.

Or pay someone to just do the soldering work and remove/repair labor. Low dollar job right there I believe. Lots of info here on the site for OBC repair.

BTW, I love seeing the original dealer window sticker! Would love to see a close up of it in detail. I've not seen one yet. Very cool.

Did you find that it actually cost you about $550 per year in charging costs over the years?

I've also not seen the stock head unit in use as mine had an aftermarket one. Also nice to see the pics. Thanks. GLWS.
