The problem is not uncommon. In most cases the gearswitch mechanism needs some cleaning and lubricating, if it stucks. In most cases a few spray shots with WD40 does help.

I read, that there were some software changes in the later models since 2016. The hack doesn't work anymore. Later i-MiEVs have more sophisticated regen controls behind the steering wheel via paddles in 6 steps (from MY 2018 on).

I think you will have to reprogram/reset the MCU (main controller unit), there might be some diffeernces between Mitsu/Citroen/Peugeot... You will need some special electronic devices/programs to do that. Otherwise it will not function. I believe Mitsubishi has modified some parts/settings...
