Always on lighter/12v port - Charging battery banks

I made some progress on this project. I did the hard part - wiring and cutting. Now I need to decide where to connect the wires. Ideas please! Do I use an open fuse (never did that before) or do I use an inline fuse on the red side? I want this to always have power, key on or off...

    Two i-Mievs - 2016 and 2017

I just saw these on Carfax and thought I'd post here for anyone looking. Not that old and decent mileage and price. Good reports on Carfax. One even had an emissions test in NY! Doesn't say if it passed. https://www.carfax.com/vehicle/JA3215H49HU000205...

Ah, thanks Don, at least I can try that next time.

A/C while plugged in not cold

Hi, If I am plugged in (J1772), turn the key all the way, turn on A/C...it blows but is not cold. When I unplug and start the car the A/C is cold. Is this normal? Thanks

    Dash warning beepers

Kiev, Thanks for the super info! I did all the mods including the knee breakers. I had seen them before and thought the same thing! glad to remove them since I love my knees. Also the car is so much faster now :) Considering the rear gate beeper next, but I do like seeing the dash warning...

    Dash warning beepers

I do not want to change the computer or warning system....just want to disconnect the physical beeper

    Dash warning beepers

Hi all, I would like to get to the warning beepers and disconnect them. I have tried to be at peace with them but they annoy me - I often hang out in my car at lunch or break time and am in and out of the car, etc. I want to find the beepers for these two things: Key in ignition and driver's...

Always on lighter/12v port - Charging battery banks

Yes, I do want robust. And I can use some of the extra wire for an outdoor sound system. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll get the 10 gauge.

Always on lighter/12v port - Charging battery banks

Thanks Don! This one is cool! https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074FH81GQ/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1 What would you use for wire? I don't see blue sea wire. Here is a 12 gauge...

Always on lighter/12v port - Charging battery banks

OK cool, good to know. I also will try charging the smaller battery bank in the car with the solar panel that comes with the home kit and compare the charging speed with the lighter port and see which one works better. I want to explore all options and try them - you never know how you can get...

Always on lighter/12v port - Charging battery banks

Here are the two battery banks I am considering. One for the car and one for the house. Although I may sometimes take the larger one on the road while camping without electricity nearby. Small one says 13-22V/2A max input from solar panel. I'm assuming it's about the same for the lighter...

Always on lighter/12v port - Charging battery banks

Awesome, thanks aerowhatt! That will work out perfectly. I'll check the draw on potential power bricks I'm considering. I go out to my car every day around the time that it is done charging, so it won't be on the 12V for long after charging is complete. Maybe 30-60 minutes. Wait, I have not...

Always on lighter/12v port - Charging battery banks

Hi, I've been thinking of wiring an always on lighter port from the battery terminals (or positive battery terminal and vehicle ground nearby), to the center console area. I would then be able to charge some kind of battery that accepts 12v input. Also, I can use the lighter when the car is...

    iMiEV as workhorse

Yea, not for that, just for laptops, phones and stuff at the campground, mobile office, or power outages. I have no desire to run corded saws anymore after trying the battery baby saw.

Looks like the inverter is already made by another brand. So I could probably take apart one of the Kobalt 40V chargers and connect the wires from this brand's inverter. https://www.amazon.com/Greenworks-Cordless-Power-Inverter-battery/dp/B07B7LBFVL

    iMiEV as workhorse

I have avoided doing the math again! Spotty tornado thunderstorms brought down 10 huge trees on the back road in my 2 mile wood scavenging loop near my house. I got this stuff in two and a half loads. These 4 foot sections are normally what they leave on the side of the road and fit nicely...

    iMiEV as workhorse

No that's my Amazing EVSE being crushed by a huge log! I am fond of already bucked wood on the side of the road and drive the back roads to errands and when I see some, make several trips as soon as possible to beat the other free wood scavengers. This time the wood was enough off the road...
