How does Eco mode really work?

No, I don't have inside knowledge of any kind. I'm basing what I say on 4 things... 1. energy cannot be created or destroyed. 2. for every action there is an opposite and equal reaction. 3. I have spent many years on PriusChat where this issue has been discussed ad nauseum 4. Looking at the...

How does Eco mode really work?

I agree with 1 and 2, but not 3 Eco and B mode do not give more regen than D. They give regen faster over a shorter distance. D mode gives regen slower over a longer distance. Assuming you have all the space in the world to stop, they will yield about the same amount of regen. If anything...

How does Eco mode really work?

I would agree that ECO mode is unlikely to provide acceleration and regen at the same time. If it did, it wouldn't be ECOnomical. The only purpose of ECO mode is to help you avoid jack-rabbit starts which is a bigger drain on the traction battery than slower starts.

    Real world summer mileage expectations

I still maintain you get the same amount of regen by braking gradually as you do by using the various drive modes. It's kinda cool and convenient to do it with the stick sometimes, but it's the same as using the pedal judiciously. And the brake pedal gives the person behind you a signal.

    Real world summer mileage expectations

It is my understanding, at least certainly with the Prius, that friction braking does not "blend" with regen braking. Friction kicks in suddenly during a panic situation or if you are crawling at less than 7 mph. I guess it could be different with the iMiev, but...??? So, is it published...

    Real world summer mileage expectations

yes...but any way you stop (except panic stopping with friction brakes), whether it be using the brake pedal, slowing down using B, E, or D, you will get the same amount of regen. The amount doesn't change, it's just that a slower or faster method may be better for the traffic situation you are...

Future i-MiEV Models Confirmed For United States

No, really...any of my friends who look at the car laugh at it. I admit there is great interior front seat space for a car this size, but people don't take it seriously, especially when they see the front tires...as evidenced by sales. MM can advertise this car til the cows come home, and it...

Future i-MiEV Models Confirmed For United States

If I were MM, I would drop the current model of the car, and try to introduce the new model by 2014. I think the most important changes to the car to improve consumer acceptance should be: 1. a little more range...say up to 100 miles. 2. a different exterior look. Although I don't have a...

Nissan Adding L3 Chargers at Many Dealerships

It is my opinion that with the current state of battery/motor technology, the EV is a 'round town errand/cummuter car. Oh,... Tesla may load tons of batteries on it's sleigh, but is carrying around all that weight the best way to get people from point A to B right now? (albeit, they do it in...

Nissan Adding L3 Chargers at Many Dealerships

Gas stations are repugnant to us EV owners, huh? The EV "pumps" could be a few hundred feet away. I'm not suggesting they be on the same island as the gas pumps. Hey, there are electric lights near the gas pumps, soda machines, maybe an attendant's stand with lights, heater/AC inside, and...

Nissan Adding L3 Chargers at Many Dealerships

I think the right location for level 3 chargers is...gas stations. Really,...they are all over the place. where do people go when they want to refuel their cars? get snacks? use the bathroom? buy a lottery ticket? buy cigarettes? If gas stations were smart, they would start installing the...

"Stella" - the world's first solar powered family car (TU/e)

I dunno, the front of that car is awfully blunt... It's a good arrangement for solar panel placement, but can't be the best for CD.

    Boost Charger

If you listen to some of the gurus on here, the faster you charge your battery, the warmer it will get, and the more this will decrease the lifespan, especially in hot weather. On the normal 220v charger, we can fully recharge in 6-7 hours...and who really totally discharges before refueling...

    Charging to 100%

yesterday, I actually tried unplugging my EVSE about an hour after it had completed a charge. When I plugged it back rignt in, It went on for a startup cycle, complete with fan noise, but then turned off almost immediately. I tried it three times. So, fully charging, then unplugging and...

    Charging to 100%

I normally wouldn't go through the trouble of unplugging and replugging to gain a few miles, but do you really think MM hasn't built in a top level to the BMS that won't turn off the juice when maxed out? Of course they did. Suppose my car was plugged in and the battery fully charged, and...

    Charging to 100%

I would argue that unplugging, waiting up to an hour and plugging back in would probably give you an extra percent or two

Free EV charging station at Work!

Sorry you took it that way...but my feelings have nothing to do with your personal use of public charging stations. I don't like to leave things to chance. I can go buy gasoline and there is virtually no chance that I won't be able to get it (barring Hurricaines and other natural disasters)...
