Who's trying to kill the electric car this time?

well, i got four people in my office building to lease a SparkEV this month, working on a fifth one... and rumor has it that Elon is making an offer on SolarCity, I've always thought a Tesla + PV rooftop make a good bundled package.

    Car Cover?

Too bad Budge doesn't carry the white color anymore for the iMiev size

    Free Charging

it's really hard to say no to free DCQC, especially during cool weather. I am so looking forward to when the highways connecting San Jose and Los Angeles are lined with these chargers.

    Passive cooling ?

Now that it's getting warm, I am starting to monitor the pack temperature again. I was a little concerned yesterday after DCQC and saw quite a few high T at 35C (95F). I was also surprised that the iMiev system didn't have the AC on. It did come on when DCQC was initiated. Other than the...

    Hatched a Tesla

very nice write up Joes, look forward to hear the continuing adventure. One question, do you at time wish you had the Auto Lane Keeping/Autopilot feature ? is it worth the extra $3K ? especially for such long trip ? have fun

Chances of getting a new battery?

how many kwh are you charging in for the 45 miles ? roughly, if it charges (45/62) * 16 kwh ~= 11.6 kwh, then the pack may be ok and the problem is somewhere else, such as wheel alignment ? though 27% is a bit much.

    Window glass replacement

I have a cracked windshield, from a rock strike. I am in Northern CA and have gotten quotes ranging between $400-$700, unfortunately I don't have insurance coverage. I have trying taping and crazy glue to slow the spread, but the crack grows if I forgot to leave a window partially down when...

Using I Miev for backup power unit

vh2q, your biggest advantage in the Bahamas is the abundance of solar insolation, you ought to be able to get way more than 4 hrs per day. You can get an idea of sun hours here by entering your coordinates, though am not 100% sure it'll work for the Bahamas...

    RBS light Alarm

I QCharge numerous times with the CP200, and usually with the door opened as I sort of cleaned out the car while waiting the 7-8 minutes.

    Additional pack

apparently the Power Box is available for purchase, albeit steeply at $1800, and for a lousy meager 1500-watt http://global.rakuten.com/en/store/suzukimotors/item/tuph004/ sure would love to get my hands one one to see how it turns on the DC relay, tried to look at the manual unsuccessfully...

    Wrecked i-MiEV Battery Pack Discussion

Dani - I seem to recall Siai47 had done this, adding an extra pack, and he thought the weight of the 2nd pack resulted in very poor handling. Do you need the extended range on a regular basis ? if not, you could consider putting the 2nd pack on a trailer ?

New I-MiEV's --- Maybe, maybe not

have you looking into leasing a SparkEV ? may be it's not available in Florida. I know of many people here in Northern CA leasing around $75/mon for 36-mon in total, after accounting for the $2500 CA tax rebate. We have the 2016 Volt, it is surprising as efficient as the iMiev but with the...

    Tesla Model 3

yes, the problem seems unsurmountable but at least Tesla is doing something about it and heading in the right direction. After we test drove the Model S, I suggested to Telsa that they ought to offer a PV+car package combo.

    Riversimple and Fuel Cell Discussions

I hope Riversimple succeed to come up with a working small packaged system of H2 storage & fuel cell. I think H2 can be a great range extender for a BEV, especially for the occasional supplement. Even with such low efficient for H2 photolysis, it may work if it is not the primary energy source...

    Gear Selector Misbehaving

bicycle teflon spray chain lube ? I've thought about covering up that open space in the rear, mainly for aeromode, now I have another reason. Though I was wondering if the opening helps with cooling the motor ? but the motor is cooled with coolant right ?

Flaps in the front of the car

I believe it's for aerodynamic, though it is pathetically short. The idea is to limit air flow underneath to minimize turbulence. Ideally the damper should cover the entire front to within a few inches, like all the race cars. I plan to install a damper across using lawn edging material...

    iMiev Sales in US

here in Northern CA, GM is practical giving their SparkEV away. I got a couple of co-workers and a couple of acquaintances to do 36-mon lease at ~$75/mon out-of-pocket. Unfortunately these don't have level 3 charging, but the 82-mile range is quite workable.

    Thoughts about next-gen EVs, Charging

So can JoePublic with the appropriate adaptor use the Tesla supercharging station now ? just because the station can supply 135kw, the charger doesn't need to pull that rate.

    Tesla Model 3

thank you wmcbrine, I missed that post about the Tesla station is opened to non-Tesla. I'll go to that other thread

    Front tire wear

what are the pressures in these high wear tires ? my 2014 has ~12Kmiles and the wear is barely noticeable. My pressures are 45/47 psia front/rear. After running over (left front&rear tires) and took out a deer earlier this year, the shop determined that my left arm is slightly bent. The...
