Arguments in Favor of Electric Vehicles

I still find it amazing that I can slapped a few solar panels on my roof, and I can drive. Actually they also heat my house and hot water. Given the current low oil price, I wish our officials have the courage and vision to eliminate all the oil&gas subsidies.

    ASC

Thanks databeestge, I guess there is more to it than just monitoring wheel speeds, since wheels speed are different during cornering. The computer must have a map of the anticipated speed variation. I also got a bunch of warning lights coming the hill last night: RBS, !, ASC ...

OVMS for Mitsubishi i-Miev, Citroen C-Zero and Peugeot iOn

was there an answer to PV1's question about OVMS ability to stop charge at a selectable SOC % ?

    ASC

drove about 14 miles to the train station this morning. Once I was on flatland, i turned on ASC and everything worked fine, though i only got up to 40mph. So it seems that the speed sensors must be ok. I'll check for bent rod, which shouldn't mess with the ASC right ? I think i can live with...

Solar charging - what size/type inverter, etc?

that is a really good idea to feed the iMiew 14.4vdc through the charge controller. So do you tap directly to the iMiev aux battery (presumably with an Anderson disconnect of some sort) ? Which model Morningstar inverter/controller are you using that allow seamless switching between 100vdc and...

    48vdc Energy Source Utilization

I have a plan but haven't done it yet. I guess it's not painful enough yet. My plan is to use my extra Enginer 48vdc pack. I just need to get a cheapy 48vdc->120vac inverter, oh and slightly upgrade the home-built BMS to shutdown for single cell low voltage cutoff. But now I am thinking twice...

    ASC

that's an interesting thought, I'll keep an eye out. The steering seems fine but the steering wheel neutral position is slightly offset clockwise by a few degree. It was the left side that took the deer out. Joes: thanks for the offer, it's drivable, just without ASC.

    ASC

So the iMiev killed a deer last night. The darn guy just sneaked around a full size truck right in front of me, there was just no time. The surprising thing was that the iMiev just rolled over it. I think it was the left rear tow eyelet which gouged opened its belly. Anyway, the wheel well...

    Additional pack

When the Tesla Powerwall was first announced, i did a quick fit check and i think it'll fit in the iMiev with the seat down. Not a bad price of $3500 for 10kwh. But I am not sure if it comes with BMS. I really hope the Gigafactory works out.

    Regen Paddle

The paddle is just on/off with no variability. The manual says that it's effectively disable with brake or gopedal. I use it to augment regen in L. The on/off is a bit annoying as it can be a jerky. A more gradual regen is with gentle braking. I am still learning how to use it, for example...

Solar charging - what size/type inverter, etc?

hi Aerowhatt - since we have been getting intermittent power outage due toEl Nino slamming CA, I am interested again to rig up a home back up system. In your quote above, about mixing 12v battery and using the iMiev aux 12v, are you also just paralleling the iMiev 12v to your pack of 12v...

Arguments in Favor of Electric Vehicles

The unbelievable part is that I frequently encounter people who i would think to know better. Since I work in Earth Science, i just have to shake my head and move on. For example, I recall a discussion with a JPL scientist during one of our long over night baby sitting of our instrument on the...

    Regen Paddle

I haven't notice the difference in regen amount between D and L; but i'll pay attention and let you know

    Regen Paddle

that's correct, the paddle only regens, no mechanical brake at all...should save some serious brake pads

    Chevy Bolt production version

I think the Bolt will have DCFC. I am looking forward to the Tesla 3 announcement in March. One concern I have is that Chevy is really only providing the chassis for the Bolt, the entire drive system, battery, motor, control, BMS etc....is supposedly done by LG. By now, one would think that...

    Regen Paddle

I haven't driven the ELR so can't tell you. But I've heard the ELR regen is proportional. In the Volt, it's just on/off and quite aggressive. Passengers can be lurched forward, especially at high speed. In that case, it's better to regen with light foot on the brake than engaging the paddle...

    Regen Paddle

It doesn't work at all on the iMiev, ;) . On the Volt, it's like a super regen command, all the way down to a rolling "stop". A bit like lightly touching the brake to regen, but more so. I usually drive in L, similar to L on the i, when coming to a stop sign, i let the L regens then use...

    California owners ?

I have the opposite problem, wife never wants to take the iMiev, so I bought her a 2016 Volt, at least now we're getting some EV miles in. That Volt is quite impressive, heavier than the iMiev, but gets about the same 4-mile/kwh. And the regen paddle, i keep reaching for it when i get in the...

1st Cold driving here with my 'i' :(

tigger....since you don't have the remote to pre-heat, you could get a 12v heater to plug in the cigarette lighter, it's powered with the key on ACC http://www.harborfreight.com/12v-auto-heater-defroster-with-light-61598.html my 50-mile commute is now marginally possible with the cooler...
