Solar charging - what size/type inverter, etc?

Charging with Direct Current (batteries charged from a solar array): I was able to modify an EVSE to put adjustable FLOATING 100VDC-250VDC into the i-MiEV. My circuit bypassed the EVSE ground fault but the on-board charger gave an ERROR. The on-board charger probably also has a ground fault...

Euro spec i-MiEV, 2013 mod, LED headlights

Here is a photo of my car: From the manual: 1.The headlamp leveling switch increases the resistance as it is turned from 0 to 4. Turning the headlamp leveling switch changes the voltage at point A. When the headlamp leveling switch is turned from 0 to 4, the voltage at point A decreases. Upon...

Finally killed my 12 volt battery

Did you try disconnecting the 12V battery to clear the fault? The MUT III should clear the fault. Be careful choosing a LiFePO4 12V battery that doesn't overcharge. LiFePO4 batteries don't like 100% charge all the time. Please share your results.

Solar charging - what size/type inverter, etc?

If the green light blinks there is a problem. The green light should be lighted solid on with no blinks. The blinking might indicate a ground fault or open connection. Please check me on this. When you plug your EVSE in a wall outlet does the green READY light stay on with no blinking?

    Considering buying used iMiev

Welcome to the MyiMiEV forum. This is my favorite forum, and my i-Miev is my favorite car. The more I drive it the more I like it. No gas is truly a big deal. Speaking of deals, you got a great deal on your car with a new battery. Wow! Which EVSE are you using with your 240VAC outlet?

Solar charging - what size/type inverter, etc?

I'm sure the i-Miev Charger will work on a square wave. The 2012 QEM EVSE uses a 120VAC to 12VAC transformer, a rectifier and a 7812 regulator for the 12VDC in the EVSE to drive the relay and the J1772 protocol. A square wave will heat this transformer a little more, but 110V square wave should...

Solar charging - what size/type inverter, etc?

You don't need to upgrade your EVSE for 110VAC 8A charging. You don't need a pure sine wave inverter. http://myimiev.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=24&p=17607#p17607 The i-MiEV charger first filters the AC, then converts the AC back to DC to charge the car. I tried to build an EVSE to charge...

Trouble Starting at 12 degrees F

During most of my few error warning light times, I felt that I rushed out of P before READY was lighted. Restarting and waiting for READY works of me. Warnings also occurred while driving with a spare wheel/tire which turns off the ACS.

    new tires

You must be looking at different sizes than 175/60-15 or 145/65-15. Maybe Bridgestone Turanza T001 15": https://www.bridgestonetyres.com.au/turanza-t001 185/55R15 195/55R15 195/50R15 Seems there is no good option. With 185/55R15 on the front and 195/50R15 on the rear, the ASC might be happy...

    Wheels, Rims, and Tires

It looks like the TPMS sender can be unbolted and move to a different wheel. Notice the taper on the top inside half of the wheel. Mount the tire's RED dot near the stem. Al wheels are very easy to scratch.

    8A/12A selection button

Push the 12A button after connecting to 120VAC but BEFORE connectiing to the car. Don't ask me how I know.

Charging cable pulled out when car started moving

The second way to abuse the J1772 is to HOOK the EVSE cable with the side mirror. I've done both ways. My solutions are to always park with the front right wheel over a bump in my sloped driveway and to root the service loop of the J1772 to not catch the mirror. The bump is just big enough the...

Replacing Filament Running Lights With LED Bulbs

I tried several new options. Some wouldn't fit at all. Most would almost fit. None fit properly. Most had intermittent solder joint failures after a few month. None used the reflector housing properly. Much of the light goes straight up. I still recommend waiting until we found a quality DRL...
