Replace bad LEV50 cell with LEV40

Sub optimal ranges between "barely works" and "not very well". I think it'll be okish if the LEV40s are in reasonable condition but in my opinion the figures being asked in the UK for LEV40/46 are far too high, especially when compared to the cost of an australian 104Ah conversion - in brief...

12V LiFePO4 and NOCO Battery Discussion

Just so you're aware, you have to explicitly set the things to sleep when idle You can do it using ODBLink's software and it's a persistent setting Personally I'm considering adding a switched 12v feed to mine for much the same reason as my one keeps losing its marbles if left plugged in for...

Inside Look of 2018 On-Board Charger (OBC2) OBC Gen 2

There's always the old chestnut of moisture getting into the HV container. It might even be a contaminant in the potting mix causing breakdown over long periods It could be something as simple as tin whiskers. Lead free designs were causing major problems with space-rated hardware where I work...

odd error code - a cruise control one - P0580

This one has been thrown a couple of times P0580 - which is "Cruise control multi-function input A circuit low" All well and good, but the car isn't fitted with cruise or even wiring for it (I've been planning on adding it and obtained the steering wheel parts/clock spring, traced cabling...

Replace bad LEV50 cell with LEV40

Some more input for you I've managed to overcome the link rot and grab the original Yuasa tech documents, then translate them from Japanese. They all talk about LEV50s being 4.1V cells, not 4.2 It may be possible without major firmware modification after all. I'd still be extremely careful -...

Replace bad LEV50 cell with LEV40

"Although capable of charging LEV50s to 4.2V the BMS sets 100% SOC @ 4.1V, which is within the LEV4x spec" yes.....but...... that last 0.1V is really important to battery longevity and more important the charging system lets cells go _higher_ than 4.1V, particularly if you're rapid charging...

8619-A017 is the one you need for this project

    Install a Remote Control in a 2011 i-Miev

I'm very interested in seeing if this can be used to get OVMS to control the charger. Do you have any photos or pointers to the location in the circuit diagram?

    Windscreen Wiper fluid/wash

The trick is to use a higher concentration of screenwash vs water in colder weather.....

Replace bad LEV50 cell with LEV40

Please check what I just edited into my previous post. You CANNOT use LEV4x cells - they're electrically incompatible and the BMU would need to be reprogrammed (0.1V terminal voltage difference - potential fire hazard) ================================================================== Unusally...

Replace bad LEV50 cell with LEV40

Hm Taking a closer look at the spec sheets, I think the only documented difference is that the LEV40s are 10mm narrower than the LEV50 (35mm vs 45mm) Assuming no other changes(*) you'll just have to figure out how to safely pad the cells so they're spaced and secure in the carrier. This might...

Replace bad LEV50 cell with LEV40

You're better off going to Aliexpress My meter is a RC3563 - the best way to buy is to find a vendor whose prices seem reasonable and has shipped a lot of units YR1030 family devices don't really measure low enough to characterise high capacity traction cells (they only go to 0.01 milliohms...

    BMU firmware mods

Have you chatted to the Oz Electric Vehicles guys? They're using a MITM module at the moment to achieve the same goal but reprogramming the BMU is a much cleaner solution As a side thought, it would be safer/more durable to use LiFePO4, - if this was done could the car handle the lower...

Replace bad LEV50 cell with LEV40

LEV40s are significantly smaller than LEV50s (PEV2 format vs BEV2 format), in all three dimensions and bolt spacings so they'd be a ***** to make fit 8/4 pack modules have the same issue - smaller than the older units - which means mounting issues I'm not saying it can't be done. It's just not...

Single LEV50-cell wanted for our Citroen C-Zero

As an update for this: They no longer sell LEV50s or LEV40s having just replaced a bunch of really bad (and aging) cells in my 2012 Ion, it's obvious that the rest of the pack isn't actually much better and the "new" (old) cells are streets ahead of them LEV50s are now like hen's teeth I...

    Can't mix yellow and purple

There are blue ones too I'm assuming the colours mean differing chemistries or constructions as I'm seeing a consistent 40mV difference between blue and yellow ones (which is out of tolerance) We need more technical data from yuasa about these things

Single LEV50-cell wanted for our Citroen C-Zero

BEV2 format is a standardised size format like AA or AAA, but voltages and chemistry are not LEV50 and LEV50N are LIMnO. These have different curve to newer cells and the BMU needs reprogramming or they won't work (or at least, will work HORRIBLY) Because the chemistry is different, you can't...

Single LEV50-cell wanted for our Citroen C-Zero

That wasn't true for Hobdrive until last month (Jan/Feb 2022) but it's there now and tested on my 2012 Peugoet Ion (thanks guys!!) If the procedure doesn't work for you then they'd really appreciate feedback. The programming varies a little between model year to model year so they need some...

Clock spring for cruise control buttons in the steering wheel

Thread necromancy, but.... The clock spring you need is 8619-A017 - the one on the car is either this one (US models with CC and/or media controls) or 8619-A016 (horn only) - you can get it on Aliexpress for about US $10 8619-A018 looks almost identical but has an incompatible airbag...

hobdrive - and i-MIEV ion zero, show electronic control units, reset errors

You can only do this when charging (not Chaedamo). If you don't do it inside Hobdrive, it's triggered automatically by the charging routines once the car hits about 95-98% full and is why it takes so long to get from 95 to 100% charge (you can watch the balancing function switching on/off)
