    EVs in Everyday Life

There was a Spark EV leaving the Amish Market next to me yesterday (different from the one above -- that one was silver, this one black). It was funny, because just moments before, an ICE Spark was entering the parking lot while I waited at the light, and I thought, "Too bad it's not an EV." And...

    Weird Charging Curve

I wonder if that graph is just too crude to accurately represent what's happening -- like, maybe it's rounding to the nearest kW? Those lines are awfully straight. On my JuiceBox, a typical session looks like this: The location of the notch varies, but it's always there on a full charge. (A...

    Donating it, sorry--2012 SE, 24,000k miles = $5,000 ?? MASSACHUSETTS

Ugh... I still haven't got the last two recalls done on mine; I guess I better get on it, if it's not already too late.

    Life with Chevy Bolt EV

I'll believe that when I see it. I think at this stage it may be more "musing about" than "planning". Let me put it this way: Toyota do not deserve for you, or anyone, to wait for any new EV they might someday produce. They're late to the game -- they pushed hydrogen fuel cell over BEV for...

    Is the i-Miev for us?

Be aware that the heater kills the range, much moreso than in an ICE car because an electric doesn't have all that waste heat to work from to begin with. I find the heated seat is very effective at keeping me warm, at a much lower battery drain, but it doesn't defog the windows. Still, it hasn't...

So, uh, why did it "come off"?

    EVs in Everyday Life

I saw my second Bolt in the wild today -- a white one, at the Laurel Amish Market. (There were a bunch of Bolts at the Drive Electric Week event in Hyattsville on Saturday, which of course doesn't count, but I was kind of impressed by how many showed up.)

    Navigation system maps updates?

Would that even work? I like the idea, but I have my doubts. I see that the kit includes a dongle as well as a disc. My guess is, the dongle gets tied to the VIN of the first car it's plugged into, and won't let you install it elsewhere. It really is a racket, this kind of pricing. You could...

    Chevy Bolt production version

Can't educate them when they don't want to be educated, when they're disincentivized to become educated. "It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends upon his not understanding it!" - Upton Sinclair Maybe the only way is Tesla's way -- to break the dealership...

Gaithersburg Debuts New Electric Vehicles (2013)

There's about a 1 in 3 chance that the car pictured in this article (minus the green decals), from 2013, is now mine: Gaithersburg Debuts New Electric Vehicles I found this after I mentioned to someone that my car was previously owned by the City of Gaithersburg (per the salesman), and I...

    Chevy Bolt production version

They also have a Drive Electric Week event coming, for the second year in a row. https://driveelectricweek.org/event.php?eventid=1046 But, there are no public charging stations in town! :o

Are the 2012 models getting too risky?

For future reference, Malcolm decided to buy a Leaf.

    EVs in Everyday Life

I ran across a Bolt yesterday; the first one I've seen in the wild. We were both adjacent to the Laurel Supercharger that neither of us can use, so I'm not counting that as "Seen at a charging station." :) A couple weeks ago, I saw my first i3 not at an EVSE, in Silver Spring. I'd just come out...

Here's a serious survey wanting experience and opinions from EV owners

Note that, per the wording of the survey, they only want responses from Oregonians.

    Highway cruising

Maybe it's just me, but I find the handling of the car gets iffy at the high end of its speed range. It feels like I'm being pushed around by the wind of my own making.

App for EV owners to communicate regarding charging?

PlugShare does this, although "easily" is subjective. You have to make the choice to "check in" when you start charging. If you do that, then other users can message you through the app. People also often leave comments when checking in, along the lines of "OK to unplug" (or not).

    Detaching the 12 volt

So, after all that, I ended up in the hospital that weekend, and couldn't drive for a couple of weeks. After which, I started the car up just fine, still on the old battery. Maybe it's not as decrepit as I thought? Anyway, the new battery is sitting in my garage on a battery tender, for now.
