UPDATE COMPLETE: Updating Software and Moving Servers

Thanks for keeping all of this rolling! Currently my brother and his wife have Maeve as I'm temporarily in NY state. Brother's wife is now on the hunt for an EV. They are out in the sticks, so looking for a little longer range. Good health, Weogo

    What Gauge Ground Wire

Hi Milwauken, At 12 volts, with an 80 amp / 960 watt load, 15" wire length, 8 gauge wire, voltage drop is 1.3% or .16 volt. Changing to 10 gauge wire, V-drop is 2.07% or .25V. Does anybody know what the actual maximum amps load is on this wire? Thanks and good health, Weogo

    Charging

Hi BrennZenn, Congrats on your trip! My favorite camping place is about 3000' elevation up, and about 100 miles round trip. I could stop about half-way there and again half-way back and charge at a L2 station for a couple hours each time and make the trip but haven't tried that yet...

    Un-power steering

Hi Folks, Many years ago I drove a two-ton1958 cab-over-engine Ford flatbed delivery truck that didn't have power steering. Driving this truck I learned that if you were moving even just slightly forward or backward, steering was pretty easy. Most folks don't have a clue about how...

    Uncut Keys

Hi Fighterwis, I think you will be fine with your plain keys, but they don't turn on the alarm. I think the keys are somehow programmed so your car recognizes them. Most good lockshops can cut and program them, at lower cost than the dealer. We have one key that can remotely...

[POLL] On-Board Charger and DC/DC Converter

Hi Folks, In a week will have had Maeve for two years. Maintenance has been wash, wax, wiper blades. Recently both rear tires started to need topping off about once a month, may try replacing the valve stems. Or having tires re-seated on the rims. 1. Year and mileage on your iMiev: 2014...

    plastic roof-edge strips

Hi Y'all, You are correct. When I slowed down and took another look(after trying a rubber mallet!) it did go together as you say. It does not hold super tight, but I drove it on the interstate and it all stayed together, so I think it's fine. On our Honda Fit the roof is formed so the...

    plastic roof-edge strips

Hi Folks, I was washing the roof of Maeve and scrubbing along the edge(very dirty) and about half of one of the plastic roof-edge strips popped out. There are little plastic 'keepers' that clip on to raised metal bits in the channels, and it looks like the strips clip on to the keepers...

Used 2012 I-miev remote climate control

Hi Folks, We bought our 2014 used and it was supposed to have the remote but did not. It can get pretty cold here in the North Carolina mountains. I've been putting a little electric heater in the car to warm it up but it would be nice to use the car's preheat function. Anybody want to...

Car on charge, now won’t run (asking for someone else)

Hi PV1, A long shot, but the shift mechanism not going completely to PARK will prevent the car from starting. Maybe try a few, firm shifts up in to PARK, or look underneath for full travel of the mechanism? Thanks and good health, Weogo

2014 I-miev for sale in Fremont, CA

Hi Ed, January of 2019 we bought an immaculate 2014 with just under 7000 miles from carmax for $10K. With 70,000 miles, on it, $8K sounds high... Thanks and good health, Weogo

Recent recall for brake vacuum pump. Issue of distant dealership.

Hi Y'all, Nearest dealer was 14 miles, then 78 miles, now is 38, and they just got electric training for a mechanic. I had the recall done yesterday, took less than 45 minutes. Put Maeve on their charger for an hour and had enough juice to get home. Am glad I didn't have to hassle with...

    My least favorite feature

Hi Folks, The near freezing temps ding was un-nerving till I knew what it was! For me, the least favorite 'feature' is the right/rear pillar obstructs vision when merging. I've learned to lean forward/back to better check what's coming, but am still cautious. The headlight dimmer is kindof...

    Charging two i-Mievs

Hi Toby, IF that is the ONLY outlet on that breaker, AND it has 12ga wiring, an electrician could easily convert it to 240V, 20A(derated to 16A) using the existing 12ga wiring. The white neutral wire would be marked at each end with red tape and labeled HOT. At max charge rate our Maeve pulls...

FYI brake vacuum pump recall for early 2020

I too got notification today, for our 2014. Hopefully the non-EV dealer that is 25 miles away can do the work, and I don't have to do the 78 mile trip to the EV-certified shop. Thanks and good health, Weogo

    additional electric heater

Hi, The significant advantage to going with higher voltage is your wires don't have to be as heavy. Compared to 24V, 12V requires twice as much copper. 36V or 48V requires even less copper. Thanks and good health, Weogo

Buying a used 2011 iMiev from Norway

Hi Bilych, Since 1971 I've been driving on the slow side as an environmentally sensible choice. For me, choosing a highway or city route is based on multiple factors. The I-MiEV has a fair amount of wind drag, which really affects energy use at high speed. Generally speaking, cars go...
