    Risk in buying a second-hand i-Miev

If that iMiev was electric blue with TEA in the number plate then it was likely me :) I'm still getting used to the TEA-pot's range but have no hang ups over it. Just wondering ihow the combination of heat and AC use will go on longer journeys in the summer, had cause to use AC while stationary...

    Risk in buying a second-hand i-Miev

Glad to hear of another QLD EV-er :) I reckon as you say you will be able to manage the trip but agree with other comments that as your battery life degrades you may find this trip is beyond max range. The biggest issue I suspect will be the killer QLD humidity forcing HVAC use and depleting...

Free EV charging station at Work!

Wow. This is a factor of ev ownership I hadn't even considered. The only charge points here in south east Queensland are either at Nissan dealerships or the single council one in Brisbane. The council one is centralised between 4 bays and is a 32A charger, taking 4 hrs to fill an empty iMiev...

    Reactions from bystanders

I wouldn't hesitate to use the go button when you need to. The iMiev picks up very well compared to most large sedans and SUVs, acceleration is the result of torque over weight after all. Many determined ICE drivers have the capability to beat the iMievs acceleration, it is catching them unaware...

Nissan Adding L3 Chargers at Many Dealerships

Here in Australia I have found the best interim measure to be caravan parks, they are frequent and widely spread. All are equipped with 240v 15A sockets and many have leisure facilities and rest areas suitable for use while you await an L2 charge. The one I used gave me the charge for free and...

    Risk in buying a second-hand i-Miev

I bought a "new" 2012 model from Maroochydoore, north of Brisbane for under AU$24k at the end of May. I'm unsure of vehicle price difference between here and NZ but I'd be hanging out for them to drop the price significantly. Can heartily recommend the car though, they are so much fun to own.

Will BMW help kick start mass EV take up?

Checking similar reviews on UK sites Pistonheads.com, AutoExpress.co.uk etc and it seems BMW are aiming for the urban-chic set. Apparently the dashboard and glasshouse design is particularly striking and may just set enough trendy tongues wagging that the range-extender version may see...

Will BMW help kick start mass EV take up?

Hmm. I wonder how this will differ in different markets. Being an ex-pat Brit in Australia I agree that here, possibly as in the US the i3 may be limited in its market appeal, however I can see it succeeding in Euro markets where cities like London have a congestion charge as well as significant...

Will BMW help kick start mass EV take up?

http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-review/bmw/i3/first-drives/bmw-i3-prototype-first-drive-review The new i3 looks intriguing, will be interesting to see if other manufacturers can slipstream its brand cachet and popularity to get the wider market started on EVs.

    Boost Charger

Just to go off topic slightly - Doug, I'm a new iMiev owner too, a bit further north of you at Yatala. If you are ever taking a long trip north in your car there is a public charge point on the Gold Coast and others in Brisbane. Being slap bang between the two I'm happy to offer you my 15A...

Love the skull/flame graphics. All it needs now are the words "Death on Silent Wheels"

Our iMiEV Nicknames and What Has the iMiEV Been Called

Our license plate contains " TEA" so our kids have named it the "tea-pot".

    Nissan Leaf improves efficiency

BarryP, don't forget the high cost of UK fuel that has led them to set that price. I don't doubt they could lease the battery for much less if they wanted but will try to make money from both ends of the horse if they can. I suppose if you can sell the device and get an ongoing revenue stream...

    Emissions measurement - a non-hippy view

From my understanding there is a limited throttling, however most power stations generate a "base load", unless this is forced to increase, especially overnight when many EVs are charged and grid loads are low. The 130gm figure was based on generation here in Australia and is definitely a...

    Emissions measurement - a non-hippy view

Great as the zero emission claim is for EVs, we are constantly reminded that our cars have an impact at the power station and a genuine CO2 figure is closer to 130g per Km (0.6 miles) travelled than 0 when taking into account a mixed power source. Having purchased my iMiev for purely economic...

That last bar - is my iMiEV doing more behind the scenes?

Phew! Thanks for that. We bought the MiEV for me as a second car to commute in but after driving it my wife has insisted she have it as she does the most miles and its "cute" apparently. As this gauge confusion occurred as she used the car for the first time I needed a fast and certain...

That last bar - is my iMiEV doing more behind the scenes?

Apologies if this is discussed elsewhere, I searched but couldn't find an appropriate topic for my query - let me know and I'll shift the discussion if necessary. My query to those in the know is why would my iMiev only show an 89km range after 4hrs charging from a displayed half capacity...

    New Member Introduction

My first post (not in the forum but as an actual iMiev owner). Picked up a great deal but unfortunately the dealer provided only a 90km charge on collection despite knowing I had 150 purely highway kilometres to get home. Cue the emergency plan - no aircon, lights or radio, keep speed under...

    Australian Spec i-MiEV

Interested regarding the prices paid here in Aus. Unlike America and the UK we get no rebate or assistance with EV prices. I'm in Brisbane and found an unregistered blue iMiev for AU$25,977 on the road. I chopped in a 12 year old Zafira to get the cost to change down to $22,977 on the road and I...
