    Solar-powered interior cabin heater?

This looks like a good heating option for the miev, if we could get a salvage one from a crashed ??? EV. https://cleantechnica.com/2017/09/22/borgwarner-supply-unnamed-ev-auto-manufacturer-ptc-cabin-heating-tech-improve-range/ How hard is it to get access to the battery high voltage?

    Duosida EVSE

It's perfect for commuting. I really like it. Many advantages to ICE motorcycles. Range is easy to extend a lot in a pinch, by drafting and slowing down. Once I calculated I was getting 450MPGe following a wide truck in the HOV lane for 5 miles. I did not feel like risking passing between...

    Duosida EVSE

The Duosida's are great in that they allow 240V or 120V. The 16A model is good low cost option for charging 240V up to 16A at home. This avoids the 120V 14A or 16A charging issue. http://www.e-zencar.net/charging-mode-2-16a/ After I bought the 16A version I found out about their better...

    Duosida EVSE

These power meters are much more accurate than the 14% difference between 12A and 14A. http://documents.ekmmetering.com/EKM-Omnimeter-Pulse-v.4-Spec-Sheet.pdf However the Efergy sandage used may be off by a lot, or could be accurate to 1% if the voltage is measured and input into the...

    Duosida EVSE

sandange, I'm an engineer and I'm sorry I noticed an error in your calculation, house mains are usually closer to 117V (not 110V) and 235V, with 120V and 240V being the maximum allowed. So when I recalculated, your Duosida is charging your 2014 i-MiEV at 12.2A assuming 117V. Which is fine for...

    Duosida EVSE

I noticed Amazon sells 12A and 16A versions of the Duosida https://www.amazon.com/Level-Portable-Electric-Vehicle-Charger/dp/B018A6QK7C/ref=cm_cd_al_qh_dp_t What does the inside of the 12A version look like? I'm wondering if it's possible to modify my 16A version with a switch that does...

    Self driving iMiEVs in Singapore

I want a nuTonomy Upgrade! Maybe someone at nuTonomy would be willing to share what learned about hacking the i-miev? The comma.ai open source self driving effort seems a good fit to the i-MiEV with electronic power steering and throttle, but the power brakes are not helpful. With such a long...

    Duosida EVSE

These are the perfect range to check the temperature at the plug. I'm going to stick one on my 5-15P. The minimum order is 10, if anyone want's to order one. I'll sell the extras on Ebay also...

    Duosida EVSE

Wow that 16g wire was just a hot sunny day away from melting! But the fact that 14g did not get hot suggests a lot of conservatism in the 20% derate. A lot of Ampacity tables don't show 16g. Not sure if this one applies to home wiring, no mention of NM-B...

    Duosida EVSE

14-2 Solid NM-B W/G Romex Wire is rated to 90°C, but should be limited to 60°C. 2 of these in parallel with an angle plug placed in a small project box would allow receptacle thermal protection, assuming the plugs and receptacles are also good to 75°C...

    Duosida EVSE

No source just common sense. But I was thinking about this and found this interesting source relating to the 20% derate... https://www.copper.org/applications/electrical/building/pdf/bundle_evaluation_report.pdf They tested worst case wire bundles at high ambient temperatures. The tests...

    Duosida EVSE

Connected to 120V, through my EMW Wattbox with EKM OmniMeter II, my Duosida EVSE charging my i-MiEV indicated either 14.0 or 14.2 Amps. I measured the blade thickness of Leviton 5-15P and 5-20P add-on plug adapters, and they are the same, so the 5-20P just has a rotated blade, no other...

    Duosida EVSE

As a side note, I measured the blade thickness of Leviton 5-15P and 5-20P add-on plug adapters, and they are the same, so the 5-20P just has a rotated blade, no other difference. The receptacle wiring being 14g or thinner wiring is the only reason for 20% derating. A 5-15P could pull 14 Amps...

    Duosida EVSE

In all the posts I have not seen it clearly stated how many Amps the Duosida EVSE uses with the i-MiEV. Connected to 120V, through my EMW Wattbox with EKM OmniMeter II, my Duosida EVSE charging my i-MiEV indicated either 14.0 or 14.2 Amps. So it's ok to plug into 5-20R outlets with 12g wiring.

    Let the Hacking Begin

Totally agree! I have a hack idea if someone wants to try. I suspect the brake pressure switch is what deactivates the creep, or it could be a microswitch. In theory, another microswitch, in parallel with the brake microswitch circuit, could be put under the throttle, activated when the...

    TPMS Thread

(UPDATE) Still need a nice option that is not just for Mitsubishi... There are other options to the MUT-III tool to reset the i-MiEV TPMS. Here is what I found: http://www.thetpmsforum.com/showthread.php?1530-Mitsubishi-i-MiEV-TPMS-Reset-Procedure Mitsubishi i-MiEV TPMS Reset Procedure...

Why does Mitsubishi recommend fully charging every 2 weeks?

is kind of an insult to the i-MiEV comparing it to cell phone and Leaf batteries. My understanding is the i-MiEV has far superior batteries than the Nissan Leaf cell phone batteries. Types of Lithium-ion Batteries – Battery University...

    comma.ai

The comma.ai open source self driving effort seems a good fit to the i-MiEV with electronic power steering and throttle, but the power brakes are not helpful. With such a long battery life, it's good to future proof it. http://newatlas.com/geohot-comma-ai-openpilot-open-source/46722/...

Miles per Bar/ Range / Trip Planning Discussions

You can optimistically estimate about 1 bar per 1000 ft: The equation for this is: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Potential_energy U=mgh (Ignoring energy losses, which are small for the i-miEV, maybe around 10%?) I calculated with 1 person, (2550 lbs total), 17000ft: SI units to simplify...

Miles per Bar/ Range / Trip Planning Discussions

    I have an excel spreadsheet I used to figure this out and I thought this little table would be useful: Assuming little or no AC, and no heater! MPH miles/bar 25 9.5 30 8.6 35 7.6 40 6.7 45 5.9 50 5.1 55 4.5 60 4 65 3.5 70 3.1 75 2.8 80 2.5
