i-MiEV is one of 10 top auto failures of last decade - NOT!

I think in Europe and Japan I-MiEV wouldn't be in that list. At least, here in Portugal, the i-MiEV is getting the attention of many people, and I never in the past was so asked about it then now. My experience is well known by the Portuguese EV enthusiasts, and surely made for the publicity of...

I've just exceeded my best range.

It will be a very exclusive club. For now, only two members. My photo is here somewhere. But the majority of you will never get a chance to achieve it. To achieve that, the car should recalculate its capacity to an higher number at the end of some time.

How many years / miles can we expect battery failure?

Ok. Many, many, many thanks for your information. In 2 years, a 33% decrease. Without loosing any bar. For me, definitively the effect of high temperatures. Much higher then mine, that has a degradation bellow 30% in 4 years (35 Ah versus a new 46,5 Ah). In the first summer you will not see...

How many years / miles can we expect battery failure?

I don't agree. For me its normal to see an I-MiEV lose 20% from a day to the other, without any problem. I explained that before, after some time, can be years, the car will, by itself, recalculate its capacity. And if the car find that the capacity is 20% lower then when it was new, it will...

I've just exceeded my best range.

Sorry about keeping always repeating the same thing. I believe its impossible to get more then 109 miles mRR in an I-MiEV. The value is mathematically obtained by the car, and the upper limit is 109 miles. I tried many times to get a higher number.

    Passive cooling ?

I asked myself exactly the same question. How can they do that, without opening the pack. But they are doing it,and I suspect they are doing it in my I-MiEV, because in the last annual check they had the car for three days (in the other three times they had the car for only two days), and they...

    Passive cooling ?

I think air is always flowing in the pack. One of the vents will always work, from time to time. Yes, there is a cabin air filter. I check it with some regularity, because I was a little concerned with my behavior of systematically try to cool the pack. I am amazed because it looks to me always...

Single LEV50-cell wanted for our Citroen C-Zero

For sure. In France you can get one for 9.000 € or even less.

    Passive cooling ?

The rate of charging will be slower and slower. As you see in the video, the rate of charging is already going down and so, the rate of heating too. I don't remember exactly what were the numbers, but for my experience in cooling the cells, I feel that the system is effective.

Single LEV50-cell wanted for our Citroen C-Zero

If 46ºC were a problem, mine was with serious problems for a long time. And those from Austrália. But degradation rate will be going up fast.

Single LEV50-cell wanted for our Citroen C-Zero

Maybe its possible to change the car to an 87 or 80 cell C0. If there are iOn with 80 cells, why not? Sorry about that. So unlucky. Missing the warranty for something like 1000 km.

    Passive cooling ?

I captured, in video, the moment that AC turns on in a quick charge. See the light turning on. It turns on when a sensor reach 31º C. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3GePlW1P4E

    I-MiEV owner - Portugal

So, 3.8% in 16 months. I made my calculations with 50 Ah inicial capacity. This 3,8% is less energy then 3, 8% from 50 Ah, so it doen't mean the same thing in lost of range.

    Maximum Range Remaining

I still think the formula that the car uses to get the mRR, have a maximum value, and that is 109 miles. For that, your car should be able to use the maximum capacity (close to 16 kWh), temperatures in the battery should be over 25°C, and you have to do the last 20 km at less then 100 wh/km...

    I-MiEV owner - Portugal

Today was the day of the annual check. I was interested to get the current battery capacity, and they found it to me: 35,0 Ah. (24/7/2015 - 81748 km - 35,0 Ah). The last measurement was 6/3/2014 - 61821 km - 36,4 Ah. So, now that I'm keeping my batteries cold, loss of capacity is approximately...

I think it's impossible to get more then 109 miles. It's the upper limit.

Charging blocked due to high cell temp?

I live in Portugal and hot temperatures are common. By these days, temperatures go frequently over 30 ºC by afternoon. Today the maximum will be 29 ºC. So, my batteries surely went to values over 40 ºC in the past, and that's because, I think, my I-MiEV is the one that shows higher battery...

    Maximum Range Remaining

My personal best, the highest world value ever (but not the only one to get it) is 175 km (109 miles). Now, I only can get something like 130 km maximum (81 miles). I think, to get the best value you can get, you have do drive the last 20 km at less then 100 Wh/km.
