    Battery Capacity Testing

Figure 1 2012 to 2021 Figure 2 December2020 to December 2021 The graphs above show all the measurements of the battery capacity of our CZero. We bought the car in July 2014 almost two years after it was imported into the...

12v Battery - All You Ever Wanted To Know

I believe I have found the PID with the current to the 12v battery charger. Using garygid's notation it is: 384:D4 = amps to the 12 volt battery charger on the high voltage side 384:D4 as D4/100 = amps @ about 360volts I have included this in OBDZero at the end of the list in the OBD screen...

Wanted: used OBD2 dongle for CanIon

Try the OBDZero app. It works with most dongles.

    It Has Arrived!

Our CZero is also a 2012 model with a bit more than 60,000 miles on the clock. The battery capacity is 34.5 Ah. Luckily it's only gone down by 1 Ah over the last year. Apart from batteries with bad cells the lowest capacities I have seen mentioned are about 30 Ah. Have you tried to down load...

    It Has Arrived!

"Car cap. Ah 36.5" This is the 100% capacity of the battery reported by the car "SoC 68.0" This is the SoC reported by the car "Ah 24.82" This is the present Ah in the battery based on the first two numbers "battery Ah 24.93" This is present Ah in the battery based...

It sounds like replacing the cells is a very good idea. David

    Battery Capacity Testing

DRMandrake asked for more details on the voltage differences between the cell in our car. Here 3 graphs showing the cell voltages at difference SoCs. The data for the first graph was collected on June 17 2019 and the second and third graphs are from April 13 2019. Note that the difference...

    Battery Capacity Testing

Yesterday evening, just before charging the car, the SoC was 12.5%. At the same time, the highest cell voltage was 3.730 volts and the lowest was 3.700. David

    Is my battery dying ?

My car shows 8% SoC when the voltage is 3,63. David

    Is my battery dying ?

My battery was tested in the car. I wasn’t there but the procedure they told me they followed sounded very much like the one you described for the Diagbox. Could it be that the Diagbox knows that 3.63 volts is equal to a SoC of 10% and that the Ah it measures between 3.63 and 4.1 is 90% of the...

    Battery Capacity Testing

Hi Simon The guy at the shop said that there was little difference between the cells. I believe that the degradation I'm seeing is due to the expected degradation of otherwise health cells from cycling and storage time but I'll check on the voltage difference between cells at low SoC.

    Is my battery dying ?

A couple of weeks ago our CZero was in for service. Part of the service was a measurement of the battery capacity. I’ve written the results up in a post on the battery capacity testing discussion. The shop also told me that their test instrument showed that the expected capacity of a new battery...

    Battery Capacity Testing

A couple of weeks ago our CZero was in for service. Part of the service was a measurement of the battery capacity. At the same time, I got the previous capacity measurement made 3 years ago. Here they are: These values are plotted in the graph below along with the capacity reported by the car...

    Battery Capacity Testing

According to the Yuasa tech report that I quoted in an earlier post, temperature should affect the capacity of the battery. Based on measurements on a new LEV50 cell Yuasa would expect the capacity to decrease from the nominal value of 50 Ah at about 30oC to 47.6 Ah at 0oC. However there is...

    Canion

Over the years I used CanIon, I ended up with 13 different SQLite databases. Some contained overlapping data which made it difficult to track when and how much data I had collected. To do the data analysis shown elsewhere on this forum I had to bring this data together in one consistent DB on my...

    Battery Capacity Testing

Here is a reproduction of figure 8 from the Yuasa Tech Report 2012. It shows the storage degradation for the LEV50N cell. I had to modify the original figure quite a bit in order to make it look like the similar figure for the LEV50 shown in a post above. For this reason, I’m not as sure of the...

    Battery Capacity Testing

Here is the graph from the Yuasa Tech Report 2012 showing the effect of temperature on the capacity of the LEV50N cell. The next figure is the same one as figure 4 in the post above this time with the capacities for the LEV50N added. Figure 6 Capacity as a function of temperature based on...

    Battery Capacity Testing

In the post above I showed that the higher the temperature the faster the degradation. However temperature also has an immediate effect on capacity in the opposite direction, the higher the temperature the greater the capacity. I have tried to find this relationship in my data without success...

    Battery Capacity Testing

In my previous analysis of data from our CZero I did not take the storage degradation of the battery into account. In the 2008 Yuasa technical report on the LEV50 cell figure 8 shows Yuasa’s measurements of this degradation. With some minor modifications I’ve reproduced this figure here...
