iMiEV is being refilled at gas station - literally

I bought fluid that was supposed to be good until -40 F, yet it would freeze at 20 F. Rain-X is my current favorite. It has a hydrophobic in it that beads up rain. At highway speeds, one can drive in a pouring rain and not need wipers (I don't recommend anyone to do this for obvious reasons). It...

iMiEV is being refilled at gas station - literally

I can support this kind of filling station. Always run out of the stuff at the worst time. Hope they use Rain-X, as that is the only washer fluid I’ve tried so far that doesn’t freeze on the windshield.

i-MiEV New Owner Seeking Advice Please?

Good to hear. As you acclimate to the car and as the car gets driven regularly, range should definitely improve.

i-MiEV New Owner Seeking Advice Please?

Hi, Michael. Congrats on the purchase, but sad to hear of less than stellar experiences. The first thing that comes to my mind regarding range is the tires. What size tires are on the front and rear? They should be smaller on the front. Second, when you take your foot off the throttle pedal...

Battery Problem - Turtle With Several Bars Left

My theories are a weak cell or a battery pack that’s been sitting a long time. As for discharging without driving, running the heater would be the quickest way. It should automatically turn off when the turtle appears. Or, if you have a garage that needs dehumidified, park it inside and run...

    Global Warming's Terrifying New Math

Sadly, CO2 concentration is still climbing and is currently at 415.43 ppm, so a 2-month long 10-15% reduction in global emissions didn't make a measurable difference on the curve. Combine that with the fact that most environmental progress made hasn't kept up with total emissions, ever feel...

Cost to replace an i-miev battery?

Yes. I have a KWeld unit. Made in Germany and works really well. I bought it to build an eBike battery. Two pieces of advice: make sure the charge/discharge rates on the cells are compatible with the car (125 amps on quick charge, up to 150 amps discharge), and make sure whatever you use to...

Do you have a charger remote control you DON'T use much??

How sad. Aerowhatt will be missed for sure.

    Global Warming's Terrifying New Math

So, with all the fanfare over COVID-19, what hasn't been making the news, for good or bad reasons, is the environmental benefit of shutting down much of China's manufacturing. While it's still too early to get a clear signal, CO2 concentration in the atmosphere has mostly leveled off at 414 ppm...

    The Magnet Hack?

I have my doubts given that amperage draw is driven by a PWM signal, which wouldn't change in the presence of a magnet.

    Add another OBC Failure

Just got Koorz back from the dealer. It tested good for them (which I was expecting) and fully charged without issue at home last night. I have it plugged into the same station at work to see if it stops before full charge again.

FYI brake vacuum pump recall for early 2020

Just got this done on Koorz. Sounds the same, but it is a new pump.

using a Lev50 pack for solar

If the inverter and charge controller can handle pack voltage, that’s awesome. As for keeping the stock BMS, that would depend on information others on this forum may have. I don’t know how functional the BMS is with the pack separate from the car.

using a Lev50 pack for solar

As long as you have a functioning battery management system and the solar system either has a lithium ion charge profile or you can manually set max and minimum voltages, this should work. For your voltage range, take 3.5 volts and 4.1 volts for each cell and multiply for the number of cells...

    Life with Chevy Bolt EV

I’m not on any Bolt forums. I tried using the sister forum to this one, but it was nothing but two guys arguing back and forth and I got tired of sorting through their posts. I guess I got lucky and bought one that was put together right. That’s sad to hear so many Bolts are having issues. A...

That would explain the impressive number. Pittsburgh traffic rarely lends to hypermiling.

    Life with Chevy Bolt EV

Yeah, at some point I think the Lemon Law should kick in. No reason a new car would need that much work. The front seats were a common complaint on the 2017 models, but more so with leather. I have the cloth seats and find them very comfortable. My only true complaint about the Bolt is that the...

    Add another OBC Failure

That’s what I figured. I charged it to 95% and left it at work, since the dealer is only 7 miles away from there. Family dropped off the Bolt so I could drive that home. I’m hoping the car kept a code so the dealer has something to work with. Koorz is 8 years old, so I would consider that good...

    CCS/SAE

It’s going to take a long time, if ever, for CHAdeMO to disappear. It was the de-facto world standard for quick charging until the SAE got involved. Personally, I think big on-board chargers capable of three-phase as is done in Europe would’ve been the better answer instead of having four...
