    BMU firmware mods

This is fascinating. How much does real driving range improve, and is there a flash back to stock capacity?

    Chademo speed and max soc

Unless I start somewhere above 60%, mine have always stopped around 80%. I don't know why Mitsubishi chose this behavior, maybe to encourage folks to not sit there for an hour when 20 minutes will do.

    I-Miev hot rod, anyone?

If you were in North America, I think a lot more of us would be mad as there are so few of them. World/Euro-spec I-MiEVs are quite numerous.

    I-Miev hot rod, anyone?

Pretty cool! What's the backstory on the donor car? Was it a wreck?

How does the Air Con work?

The temperature knob controls the heater element and, if enabled, the A/C pressure (how cold the coil gets). With the temperature on the green dot, the car won't heat or cool the air unless the A/C button is lit. Even then, the A/C compressor runs minimally, just enough to dry the air. Unlike a...

Aptera Petition to adopt Tesla Charging Standard

As it stands now, we have 4 connectors for EVs in the US. CHAdeMO is being phased out, yet new Mitsubishi Outlander PHEVs and Nissan LEAFs (among a few others) are still sold with CHAdeMO. There are many trips I used to do in the I-MiEV that now cannot be done unless I spend 10 hours at level 2...

Rough ride. What's up with our 2014 iMiEV?

Front shocks? That would be my guess as there’s not much to cause the suspension to get stiffer. Maybe sway bar bearings would be my next guess.

Aptera Petition to adopt Tesla Charging Standard

So, Aptera just sent out this petition in hopes of having the Tesla connector adopted as the US Standard. Since I have all the connectors in my fleet, I can definitely support this as Tesla's setup is the best (despite my frozen charge port issues, but that's more vehicle design than charge...

    Life with Chevy Bolt EV

Still have mine and drive it occasionally. I got my new battery a week ago. Not much difference in range yet, but I’ve only put one cycle on the pack so far. Since my car has never received any software updates, I noticed a few things that have changed with the latest software. 1. Windshield...

    Turtle Light at high SOC

Turtle Light is coming on in the second video (side-by-side with CaniOn) because of the cells hitting the low-voltage cutoff of 2.8 volts. The car is limiting power to keep the voltage from dropping too low (and what a good job it did). While low temperature is a factor, increased cell...

    Aptera is Back

Doable, but not all that effective for extending range. It works on Aptera because they have more space for solar, plus the car itself is 2.5 times more efficient than the I-MiEV. The amount of solar on Aptera would add about 16 miles of range to the I-MiEV compared to 40 miles.

    Constant 12V with ignition off

Hopefully someone can chime in. My I-MiEVs are buried in snow and I can’t get to them at the moment to see which wire color is the correct line. What I do know is that there is definitely a wire feeding constant battery voltage to the radio. The green one sounds like it could be it, but at...

    The Magnet Hack?

Newer i-MiEVs came with a similar EVSE, but they just push the button to switch from 8 amps to 12 amps before plugging in. I've moved on from stock EVSEs to my OpenEVSE units. Fully programmable, open-source, and have built-in energy meters. Mine support level 1 and level 2 up to 40 amps, with...

12v charging when plugged in but not in “ready”

CANbus not working properly and the car's falling back to a secondary communication circuit? Surely that should throw a warning light of some kind. Also, the red battery light should be lit indicating a problem with the 12 volt side. On the driver's side of your car, the main wiring harness...

    2012 iMiEV right mirror assembly

The mount is different, but the glass and housing from the 2015 Lancer looks very similar.

12V LiFePO4 and NOCO Battery Discussion

You'll need to clear the codes to turn the light off. Had this happen with a flat 12 volt battery in Koorz. Bear sat outside from September 15 to November 30 while locked and NOT on a float charger/maintainer, and started right up. The power needle, though, floated slightly above center for a...

    Our Gas Free Miles Travelled

Bear is now at 50,822 miles. Photon (my Bolt) recently surpassed 41,000 miles. Koorz is close to 27,000 miles, having 19,300 miles on when I purchased it in 2015. The Model 3 joined the family at 12,500 miles and is now at 15,059 miles, having already done two 300+ mile day trips. All in all...

What Other EV's Have You Driven?

Congrats, and welcome to the club. I've obviously been getting a lot of seat time in the Model 3, now that I own the first Model 3 I've ever driven. I really haven't had any experience with other EVs lately other than the LEAF or Model X at work every once in a while to do a pickup/delivery or...

12v Battery - All You Ever Wanted To Know

Not that i have. Actually, after replacing the 12 volt batteries in both cars, I haven't really seen this return. Both cars have been sitting a lot lately and both started right up when needed. I forget how long mine lasted, but I got at least 7 years out of them. My old Cavalier battery lasted...

    Life with Chevy Bolt EV

I stopped by my local dealer this morning to see where I’m at on the list. Looks like I’ll have a good wait. He said check in a few weeks. I’m anticipating Spring at the earliest, which is fine as I’m not in a big hurry for the new packs. While I was there, FedEx showed up with two new packs...
