I'm buying a non-runner MIEV here in Japan!

Several years ago i bought 2 OBC and 2 MCU thru a Japanese auction site The price was very low, but the shipping was a nightmare to arrange and the cost was very high. Then, when i finally got them-- they were broken. So from my experience i am skeptical of used parts from Japan, and would...

Ion 2012. Will not charge AC, only DC. No active codes indicating any useful (after OBC Swap = Yellow car)

It's unusual to have so many U-codes, which are CAN Buss fault codes. The P1A12 is thrown for any internal OBC fault for abnormal Stop during charging. The troubleshooting seems to focus on the CAN Buss, and this caution is right up top: So does the OBC not work due to an internal fault, or...

That's what i was worried about, if the gate drivers were blown and shorted out, it might cause both the top and bottom gates to come ON at the same time--that could cause a 2000 Amp spike, yikes! Probably a good idea to inspect that the devices are OK. Make some measurements (diode drop...

I think it's just one bad cell...

Looks like 200 mV lag on cell #7 at the top, with close to 300mV at lower SOC. Looks like a weak or worn out cell that needs to be replaced; a CAN bridge would only mask it and too risky to let that cell go too low without warning.

Mickey and i are on the same channel on this, i was trying to write up a similar response just now too. :) All the testing seems to have ruled out the motor as culprit: no short to chassis, or phase to phase, and bemf response is as expected. Hopefully the old control board did not command...

Resistance is a static measurement from phase to phase. No wheel spin for that. It appears that your meter was reading 000.0 Ohms, which is basically zero. The resistance is likely in the milli-ohm region which your meter may not be able to measure. What about measuring resistance from...

Just a post listing the resistance would be fine. The utube videos are not playing with message "Sign in to confirm you're not a bot" There is a reason why i asked that you only turn the key to ON after clearing the codes, and then check which codes reappear without starting (looking at the...

Did you try turning a wheel while 2 phases were connected together (shorted phase test), and also with all 3 connected together?

The reason to only jack up one side is to lock up the differential in the gearbox so that the rotation of the wheel will primarily back drive the motor rather than spin the wheel on the other side. The spin direction doesn't really matter, just whichever is easier. Either side is fine too, i...

Yes end to end continuity check; not sure that resistance matters unless there is corrosion evident.

i also suspect that the "old" or original MCU control board may be the source of the issue. Didn't realize that you were gonna be swapping the old board into the "new" mcu. You certainly like to do extra work, maybe slow down a bit and work smarter not harder. The old codes were stored in the...

In the meantime IF you want to check the motor windings: shift to N and set the brake, disconnect the 12V and pull the cover off the MCU, check for no HV on the leads from the pack, [side note: inspection of low voltage signal wires can be done later while cover is off] back to motor windings...

I'm buying a non-runner MIEV here in Japan!

i suspect there is some wiring harness issue or connector issue because of the low igbt temperature reading, also the impossible high motor currents. Also the CAN buss error codes. Does the car start to READY mode? If so was the HV error (!) lamp ON or not? Did the HV error lamp come ON...

i like the Permatex 24-hour cure "Ultra Grey". It is a form in place gasket (FIPG) material that contains calcium carbonate as the binder agent and can be easily removed. It seems closest to the OEM to me. It makes an oil and water tight seal on engine timing covers, oil pans, etc. They also...

Swapping OBC's as diagnostic - safe?

Good catch to find that bad fuse--sometimes you get lucky

2010 Japanese version may have info on the earlier car that we haven't seen before. i found the immobilizer writing of chassis number on the english version 2012, couldn't find it in the 2010 Japanese. Writing chassis number for immobilizer

Looking at a 2012 w/28k miles and almost fully depleted battery

i think a 51R (Laef battery size) is too big to fit--i made that mistake over the covid period. Pro-tip to save your sanity and wrists: remove all the harness straps and brackets holding the positive battery cable in place. They must have tightened it in place after the battery was attached...

i don't know if you are an electrical guy or mechanical guy, or software, etc. so hard to know at what area to focus or advise, but There is a slow bleed-off resistor visible on the HVDC input buss bars in the top plenum (white ceramic), and a fast bleed circuit in the bottom plenum. Maybe...

Looking at a 2012 w/28k miles and almost fully depleted battery

You will need a good strong 12V battery to replace the old, weak or worn out one in that car, as the 12V battery warning lamp is lit. In many cases that is the cause for all the other issues and DTCs due to lack of CAN buss communication from the dead 12V supply. The main contactors in the HV...

As mentioned earlier, The VIN is stored in the eeprom on the control board (bottom plenum) of the MCU.
