Turns out our 2012 i-MiEV is not the "Premium" edition so it does not have hand controls. Swapping from the original radio to a Sony XAV-3500 was pretty easy. I had to get very creative with some rubber scrap to make a custom pressure-fit mount, however. I wasn't able to modify the stock mount...
