That's why we stacked the CMU links and the bus bars. The torque affects the bus bars which is not a problem and the CMU links below the bus bars are not affected. We had no problem with this approach except the labor of making the jumpers.
When Piev ordered his cells, I was surprised at his choice of terminal design, but not the 8mm size. I think that he called them "circular." Photos of the cells that we used may be found at:

The M8 terminals were an option on our cells...
Piev,
As you know there is another Phoenix IMiEV owner here in Phoenix who is considering rebuilding his car's pack. He may very well wish to use the "L" and "I" combined jumper solution. So, if you get a quote on these jumpers, would you please post it to this list?
By the way, using the...
Jim, you are certainly not "stepping on toes." I appreciate the work that you have done. I think that either drawing would do for the document.
I don't know what the folks who follow will choose for the terminal jumpers. The "L" and "I" combined jumper and bus bar is a good approach but I...
We chose to make the change to M8 terminals, I think that it was $1 per cell, because we thought if Mitsubishi thought M8's were correct, we'd go with the flow. Piev had some thoughts on this as well.
The M8's allow for higher terminal nut torque. I lived through lead acid ICE conversion...
Jim,
If you are asking about the CTC distance on the same cell:
It is a valid concern that piev's may be different than mine as they were purchased from different vendors at different times. That certainly could affect mass producing jumpers. However, I don't see a discrepancy between...
Jim,
Nice drawing.
You said: "The 54mm measurement in your drawing would not work in CAD based on your other numbers." You dimensioned things a bit differently than I did, so I can't spot the error. I show a bus bar length of 74 mm which agrees with 54 mm jumper length and 20 mm washer...
Jim,
I'm posting here since others may be interested in my drawing as well.
It will also be added to the document at:
https://5by9.net/prune_batteries/module_rebuild.html
The bus bars were chosen to be cut into a jumper and the remaining
piece used as a spacer to allow the inter-cell jumpers...

Hello,
My son has completed the "Pack Removal" section of the documentation. It may be found at:
https://5by9.net/prune_batteries/pack_removal.html...
I ordered these cells:
https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Brand-New-CATL-Ternary-Lithium-Ion_1600494889608.html?spm=a2700.wholesale.0.0.256e30b1jevR7c
I searched on alibaba.com today for cells with similar specifications, and found that there are other vendors selling these cells at about...
Thank you for your reactions. I'll pass them along to my son Nicholas
who is the author of the document and co-worker in the upgrade process.
While there is a lot of detail, the document was not so much a recipe,
but a snapshot of what we did. If you follow it, it will work, but
there always...
Hello,
Please note that piev is the organizer of the traction battery upgrade effort and has consulted with many folks to get to this point. My son and I are now benefiting from piev's efforts. Our car's upgrade is performing as expected and we are very pleased.
My son is working on some...
Hi Chris,
I paid $3,681 for 93 cells including tax and shipping in April. The car uses 88 cells. The rest were spares.
You need to consider the risk and safety precautions of dealing with high voltages. In addition, the pack rebuild is a lot of work. My son is working on some step by step...
