Mitsubishi i Miev Sport Air Concept

Did anybody see this article about the i-Miev Sport Air?

Looks futuristic! It has a 50-50 weight distribution and is much more aerodynamic than the current i-Miev. No word on production timelines yet, I think it's still officially a concept.

I like the front view, the Mitsubishi i Miev Sport Air is a cool looking car.

Is that a small trunk? Or does that whole rear glass lift up as a hatch on the Mitsubishi i-Miev Sport Air?

For me it's bittersweet.
I am disappointed to see that the Sport Air is still just a "concept car."

These same folks did a report on the Sport Air in 2006.

This was their final comment at that time:

"Whether or not this vehicle is what ends up on the road in 2009
remains to be seen. But it appears that Misubishi, at least in principle is
committed to thinking slightly outside the box."

I really like this car, but it's been dangled out in front of us for 6+ years
now with no commitment by Mitsubishi to produce it.

The indecision and teasing got old long ago.

I think its about time that Mitsubishi put-up or shut-up on the Sport Air.

AArgh, I didn't notice that the Sport is so dang tall. Why go through such streamlining contortions yet leave so much frontal area on the table? EVen with the i's rather upright seating position, my 6' frame has near enough headroom to wear a ten gallon Stetson inside- it's time to chop that ride!

I've been despondently thinking about the likelihood of the Sport Air ever being
available in North America. It doesn't look like there is a high probability.

Here's why; the specs I could find on the Sport Air strongly suggest that the
concept car is built on the JDM/European iMiEV chassis... no big surprise.

Overall, the U.S.-spec Mitsubishi i-MiEV is now almost a foot longer
measuring in at just over 12 feet. It is not clear where that extra length
was added in, but the production i-MiEV does sport a much longer snout
than the version intended for Japanese and European markets. As for the
width, it too has been stretched by about four inches to give the i-MiEV an
overall width of 5 feet 2 inches. The height of the car remains pretty
much the same as the foreign-market versions.[/i]

Given that the iMiEV North American chassis is longer and wider, I consider it
unlikely that Mitsu would resize the Sport Air to fit. I think that the NA market
would just be too small... that is unless Mitsu could accept selling the car at a
loss, as has been alleged that Toyota did with the Gen I prius...
albeit with generous JApanese government subsidies/supports.

I saw it at the show. You couldn't get into it and look around, but it looks small and low to the ground. I could probably fit if it was EITHER small or low to the ground, but not both.

Looks like a more aerodynamic Volks Beetle. Too small for me.
