Re: Troubleshooting and repair for On-board Charger (OBC)

This will be a very difficult or impossible repair due to the epoxy. Here are four options to consider, along with thoughts on success. 1, Remove the epoxy of the Junior Waffle Plate (JWP) and replace the transistors. 2. Find a used OBC and swap out the entire JWP. 3. Find a used OBC in a salvage ya...

Re: Troubleshooting and repair for On-board Charger (OBC)

Good day everyone. I own a mitsubishi i-miev. At one point, it stopped charging, opening the charging module, I saw the following. There are burnt elements on the bottom board under the epoxy compound. There are no services and good electricians in the city. Help determine what elements are worth, ...

Re: Gen1 DCDC Converter Troubleshooting and Repair

Take a look at this link to page 76 of the OBC Troubleshooting thread for the posts by Philsuth about the failure and repair of his 2010 version. Lots of great photos and details of his repair of a capacitor down below the black epoxy, and an xray image of the Junior Waffle Plate. The discussion run...

Re: Gen1 DCDC Converter Troubleshooting and Repair

Marked in red what was faulty, traces of the explosion of elements. I've tried various means to remove the compound, but so far nothing has come of it. I don't know if there will be a label. Help. That black coating is a very hard epoxy covering the circuit board and which makes replacement of part...

I apologize in advance That's not a problem the posts can be moved later if needed. The photo shows that you have an earlier version, pre-2012. We had a...

Re: Troubleshooting and repair for On-board Charger (OBC)

To test the diode it would need to be removed from the circuit. On my board i get the same 60 Ohms reading in both directions; this is because the diode is in parallel to the relay coil, so you are just reading the coil resistance. Why do you suspect the diode? If it were shorted then the reading wo...

Re: A/C Condenser Fan

Sorry too early and not enough coffee yet. How about an intermittent temperature sensor in the cooling loop somewhere? There are 2 cooling fan relays (lo and hi), so it may be that it just went into Hi mode based upon temperature. The temperature sensor is located on the front bottom of the MCU back...

Re: Manually Moving the Shifter to Neutral

There is not much space in front of the windshield so don't know if it helps or not, the shifter interlock cables (key and brake) are inside the passenger compartment. See diagrams here:
